Leigh Robinson, a veteran of the Confeder ate army, and a native of Virginia, dedicated a monumest to General Robert E. Lee on the Gettybsurg bat tlefield today, declared that when the war between the states began the southern chieftain was offered two crowns, the crown of gold and the crown of thorns. "He lifted the latter to his brow and never was heard from him a murmur against the destiny of duty." "From 18C5 to the day of hi3 hath." Mr. Robinson said, "General Lee was visited by every adversity a malign fate could hurl against him. From citizenship in the state of which he was the consummate flower he was excluded. Practically outlawed, he! died a paroled prisoner of war. A,1 life wherein no responsibility was I shirked: every reason for it met, he towered to the end, witnessing to the, povVsr of a great nature, greatly spent for others and in sacrifice of things mortal finding immortality. "Every gift of fortune had been showered on him, bdt he was greater than the gifts. Every blow of ad cersity; was rained upon him, but he was greater than the blows." Mr. Robinson declared that one of the sublime moments of General Lee's career was when after Gettysburg he quickly assumed all the blame for the failure to break through the Union lin'es. . Referring to the figures about the pedestal of the Lee monument, rep resenting the different branches of military service and classes of citi-j zenship, Mr. Robinson quoted the trib- utes ot uenerai L.ee ana jacKson 10 the courage, constancy and cheerful patience of their troops in every stress and condition of war, and con cluded with a summary of the slow "process of attrition" by which the Confederate armies gradually were .worn down to the end of their resis tance. GARTH'S ARTICLE i WSSTWfSmsmB!mZS&SSi To the Editor of the Record: I wish heartily to endorse the splen did article by Mr. Garth in last night's Record. It was animated by a spirit that should be in every Am erican heart today, "If it takes us allM we will all go." It seems to me that no American who has kept up at all with the events of the past three years can fail to see and know that America is in the right, and that the Prussian spirit of world domina tion must be crushed out utterly or else our children or our children's children will have to bear the "Prus sian yoke' The whining cry in some sections of "blood money"should j be replaced by the shout of Liberty! Money and Liberty Lives. W,'hen the I brave men who registered last Tues day feel and know that every man who may be left at home is full of the spirit. "If it takes us all, we will all go," then they can go with the feeling that the whole nation is back of them. Every man who is called should go with the absolute conviction that those who remain at home are fighting with him in the great cause of liberty, and that if ne cessary they will take his place at the front or anywhere else that they may be sent. No man called to the colors should feel that he is fighting '.the other man's battles." It is Am erica's war. It is for the liebrty of ourselves and our children that we All of us fight. K. B.
