B Local and Personal FIRE AT PUMPING PLANT BURNS MCSetRS in Geo. E. Bisanar Hickory lodge, No, 343, A. F. and A. M'., will meet tonight. There will be woi-k in the second degree. Miss Beatrice Cobb, editor of the Morganton News-Herald, spent Sun day in the city as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Whitener. !Mr. J. F. Click has a small peach tree that insists on producing twin peaches, half of the dozen large ' peaches being of the twin sort. All ,the fruit was borne next to the trunk ot tho tree, close to the ground. Two five-horse power motors used at the pumping plant to pump water from the wells were almost totally destroyed Sunday shortly before 11 o'clock and the alarm, turned in at the church hour, caused many men to wriggle in their seats. The cause of the accident was not determined, but it is supposed the current went off during the morning and when it was renewed failed to start the mo tors owing to compression. Ordi narily the belts burn in two or run off the pulleys, but they failed to do either this time. The damage was about $100. Hickory ice, the Distilled Water Kind, is the best -you can depend on that. Mr. Chas. E. Bumgarner, who grew a crop of fine strawberries, is now bringing in some of the best p?aches that the county can boast. A basket left at the Record office was much appreciated. There were no attendants, and the bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a stylish coat suit of deep blue chiffon taffeta with hat to match, and her flowers were a corsage bouquet of lilies of the val- ey and bride's roses.
