Henderson entertained about twelve couples at a most delightful dance. The Henderson home was beautifully decorated with roses and other summer flowers. Delicious punch, cake and candy were served throughout the evening by Misses Kate Elliott and Louise Jones. , An excursion from Lenoir to Charlotte today carried a fairly large crowd and many folks boarded it here. The train was run over the C. and N.-W. Mr. A. M. West spent yesterday in Charlotte. He was accompanied by Mr. Julius Abernethy of Newton and they returned by way of Lincoln ton, where they found the Hickory boys in the cavalry all right. Mr. H. A. Fulmer has resigned as clerk in the office of the city mana ger and is devoting all his time to business .the Fulmer-Gibbs Furni ture Company. Mr. Fulmer was an efficient man in the city manager's office. Mrs. J. I. "Now, therefore, be it ordained: "That the "City Council of the City of Hickory" finds the following facts : (a) That the city treasurer has filed with the city manager, ex oflfjcio city CierTc, a statement of the debt of the "City of Hickory," pur suant to the "Municipal Finance Act of 1917," and that said statement is now in the office of the city man ager and is open to public inspec tion. j (b) That the average assessed valuation of property subject to taxation by the "City of Hickory" for the years nineteen hundred fourteen, nineteen hundred fifteen and nineteen hundred sixteen is two million, one hunitrea eighty-one thous and, six hundred forty-two dollars, and sixtv six and two thirds cents ($2,181,642.66 2-3), as is shown by said statement. (c) That the aVeragfe assessed! valuation of property subject "to taxation by the "City of Hickory" for the years nineteen hundred fif teen, nineteen hundred sixteen and nineteen hundred seventeen is two million, two hundred ninety-six thousand, two nundred fort-nine lollar3 and thirty-three and one-third :ents, ($2,296,249.33 1-3), as is shown by said statement, and that the years nineteen hundred fifteen, nineteen hundred sixteen and nineteen hundred seventeen are the three fiscal years in which taxes tfere last levied. (d) That the amount of the net iebt of the "City of Hickory" out standing, authorized and to be author ized (including all proposed bonds) is two hundred two thousand, eight hundred fort-vhree dollars ($202,- 843,00), as is shown by said state ment. "That funding bonds of the maxi mum principal amount of thirty- three thousand dollars (?33,(K)0), bearing a maximum rate of inter est of five per centum per annum, be and are hereby authorized to be issued by the "City of Hickory," a municipal cooperation in Catawba county, State of North Carolina, for the purpose of funding the present floating debt of said municipal cor poration. "That the maximum period witnin which the said funding bonds shall mature is and shall be ten years, which is the shortest period in which the debt can be finally paid without making it unduly burdensome upon the taxpayers of the city.
