Wil liams, in "Dixiedale," when their neice Miss Grace Ransom of Raleigh, pledg ed her troth to Durwood F. Mayberry of Statesville. The parlor was most tastefully decorated in green and white with shaded lights and beneath an arch of evergreens and white hy drangeas, the young couple pronounc ed their marriage vows, the ceremony being performed by Dr. W. M. Sikes, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, in the presence of only the immediate family. After the mar riage the couple boarded the train for Chattanooga, Tenn., where the groom will enter the reserve officers training camp. The bride is the second daughter of the late James Ransom and grand daughter of General Robert Ransom. Never in her life was she prettier than in the hour when she plighted her troth to the man of her choice. Mr. Mayberry is a promising young lawyer of Statesville, who has sac rificed his practice to answer his country's call to the colors. According to the official statement, 15 vessels or more than 1,600 tons were sunk and three vessels of less than 1,600 tons, in addition to two fishing vessels, as compared with 14 large vessels the previous week, two small vessels and three fishermen. See discovers the brother is Carslake. Securing the setting from Knox, he has him locked up while the erirl locks Pearl in her room. Car- slake and the girl take a motor boat to shore. Speeding along, Carslake is astonished to see Pearl pointing to a revolver at him. She secures the setting and the diamond. Bending to tie her shoe-string Carslake plung es into the water. Tom Carlton hears a shot, jumps into a launch and goes in search. Pearl, accompanied b the police, ar rive at the yacht and find Knox in a struggle. Pearl is about to be cast into the water when Tom saves her. Pearl gave the diamond to Knox. "Now that everything i3 cleared I want to know why , our lives were to be forfeit."
