Gastonia, Aug. 28 There is no busier place in Gastonia than at the grounds of the big Gaston County Fair. The 1916 fair was housed in tents, with the exception of the cattle, pigs and horses which had SDlendid equipment. On account of the tent people being unable to secure army duck because of the demand in equip ping the troops, the fair which will be held Octobel 9 to 13, 1917, was face to face with either not holding a fair, or going to the tremendous cost of building permanent buildings. It was quickly decided to erect three new buildincrs. one fiO -ft. wirlp by 250 ft. long that would hold the field crops, fancy woTk, cooking and canning, merchantile exhibits, manu facturers display, community fair ex hibits, and miscellaneous exhibits, an other building 60 ft wide by 250 ft. long will house the school exhibits of Gaston, Lincoln and Cleveland counties as well as the corn club, can ning club and home demonstration club exhibits of aston, Cleveland and Lincoln counties, also, in this build ing will be the free public rest room for the convenience of the thousands of lady patrons. A modern poultry building, 45 ft. wide by 80 ft. long will house the poultry of North and South Carolina. In addition to this the pig barn is being increased by half, with a num ber of changes and additions both to the horse and cattle barn. When this work is done the big Gaston coun ty fair will have the largest and most complete exhibition halls and barns of any fair in the Carolinas, except the two state fairs. Clinard-Bell Mir. Weston Clinard, who is well known and popular in Hickory, was married recently in Washington to Miss Mary Sue Bell of Morganton. Miss Bell went to Washington where the ceremony was performed. They had been lovers for many years and their friends in this section will wish for them ail happiness. Mr. Clinard has joined the army and will do his bit for the flag. la & . PEACE INSTITUTE.
