CLINE WRITES INTERESTING LETTER The fo.lowmpr letter under date of November 13 from Lieut. Frank Lau re"ce, Cline t0 Mr. J. H. P. Ci.ley will be of gensral interest: Your letter of October 10th, 1918, rece.ved today, and was certainly glad to hear from you and to know that everything was moving along nicely. It certainly was nice of you to re member me in the form of a letter and I hope that this will not be your first and last one, as I enjoy hearing from you at all times. "We have all been pretty busy since our arrived over here and have been troop ng around France ever since. It seems that we cannot get ourselves located in one p!ace long enough to get used to our surroundings or any thing else. About two weeks ago we came out of the line and were told that we were out for a rest, but about the time we cet cleaned un and tpaHv to live, along came an order and back to the front we started, arriving at what was once the front, but now a real honest quiet stretch of country. It seems quite strange being where we are now and not hearing the ar t'llery as it has only been a short time ago when we were in this same sector that we pushed the Hun out and started him toward the Father land, where I think he will be only too willing to spend the balance of his days and forget that he ever wanted to rule the world. I think that th;s division has done its part in winning the war. When it comes to fighting, the Old Hickory divis"on is right there with the big mit, 'a it takes more than Jerry to stop them. A German prisoner made the remark that the Australians fought for souvenirs and the Tommy for a ''blighty" and the Sammy to kill. When it comes down to a show these boys bel'eve in giving the Jerry ail the He'.l that they possess, and be lieve me they sure do it. This part of France is very pretty nnd at one time must have been verjf prosperous and thriving, but now it is a complete wreck, nothing but shell holes, skeletons of buildings and places where towns once were. It is hard to describe just exactly the condition of things over here at the present time, it is an evident fact that it will take a number of years to rebuild and to fix up this country, like it once was. The people though are in the best of spirits and take ev eryth'ng just as easy as if nothing had happened, which I guess is the only wry to look at it. The rvmist'ce being s;gned and hos tilities ceased, I guess the next thing will be peace, wh;ch I hope will come very shortly. We are all very anx ious for the peace terms to be sign ed, so that we may know for an ev 'dent fact that the war is over. All the boys have already begun to spec u'ate as to when we will go home, this of course appea's to all of us as we are all very anxiouto get back to the dear old U. S. A. All the boys are well and getting along as well as could be expected. Some of them were pretty sick with colds or the flu, but they have about a'l recovered and are back on the job. I have practically the same bunch as I d'd when I left the states and I sincerely hope that I can keep them and brin them back safely. John nie is gett'ng along just fine and will have worlds of things to tell you on his,.rrival. I see Joe very lit tle, but I hear from him quite often. I saw h'm today and he looked well and as strong as ever. By the way, he has been made a first lieutenant and I hope it won't be long before he goes even higher. Wte don't get much news up here about the happenings around the coun try, so I guess I have told you about all these is to teil. Hoping that you are all well and that It won't be long before we can tell you of our ex periences over here. Please remem ber me to the madam and the rest of the family. Wishing you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year I am.
