If in doubt, ask Miss Mor--rell or any c f the teachers. Tho Record has also heard that the charge is made that the salaries of teachers is too high here, and that the city is responsible. Any per son who wants the facts could write to t"C state superintendent of pub lic instruction and receive them. CHICKENS. AND GARDENS . A Record subscriber, who has v new lawn and some garden truck, nuggo.t'i that this paper call atten Cion to the fact that it is a misd.v rrcanor tc.' allow chickens to run at large if they bother other people Tlmt is the state law. One may catch and hold chickens for ransom, as it were, hut it is unlawful to kill them , The owners of depredating fowls lfliiiv be given notice and if they fai' keep their chicken'? penned, ther hky may be indicted. The best way Sm handle the depredating fowl is tc i't a trap for him and then proceed lithe extraction of ' the coin of tin iilm from the owner. That is r. ff-lpd remedy. 'l' Thut there will continue to be two big political parties was indicated iii the special election in the third Maine congressional district Mo'nday where, the Republican candidate won by about G,000 majority. Con gressman Peters, who resigned to accept a judgeship, was elected in H'20 by over 19,000 majority. There was c.f course very much less inter est in this special election than there was in the last general election, a'nd probably thousands of votei-s, many of them women, remained away from the polls. The result appears merely as indication that thtfinand:--who voted the Republican ticket in this district have returned to the Democratic party. I1ETTER REGISTER Citizens of Hickory who have no! registered for the municipal election .would do well to see that their name? are on the registration books. Many women registered lat fall for the general election, but that registra tion decs not count in the city pri mary oand election. There is consid erable interest in tho primary Mon day and a large vote probably wil' be cast. If for any reason, new vot ers are not enrolled before Friday night, when tho books close, they will be given another opportunity next week, beginning Tuesday. The candidates will run in tho election a week from Monday, since there can be' no elimination where there juv ewer than three candidates.
