TO HOLD OUTING THURSDAY
Following the annual . custom the
members and Sunday school of the Re
formed church will enjoy ' an outing
Thursday afternoon. This year the
church will depart from the usual cus
tom and instead of spending the day
on a picnic, the crowd will leave the
church for Bakers Mountain at 1
o'clock in the afternoon' and take sup
per along instead of dinner. This gives
more of the members an opportunity
to enjoy the picnic and at the same
time, afford them an opportunity of
enjoying the coolness and pleasantness
of Bakers Mountain in the late after

An unusually interesting meeting of
the Y. WI. M. A., of Corinth Reform
ed church was held last night with
Mrs. W. W. Rowe, this being the re
gular monthly meeting.
Mr. Rowe conducted the opening
devotional exercises, giving the. scrip
ture reading and. offering prayer. He
also had charge of the mission study
lesson making this part of the pro
gram intensely interesting as he.

gram the guests were then treated to

Mr." O. Simmons has installed a
public radio wireless outfit at the
Piedmont Phonograph Company and

go; where they attended the English
Evangelicial Lutheran synod. The next
synod will probably meet in New York
city. Professor Kreinheder and Pro
fessor Smith attended the professor s
conference in LaGrange, 111., where
Professor Kreinheder read a paper on
"The Necessity of Voice Training in
Our Colleges.'' There are 14 schools un
der the fostering, care, of the synod,
on of which is in Canada, one in South
America and the remainder in the
United States. Concordia College is
under the care of this synod.
LIBRARY NOTES -
The library board extends a cordial
invitation to the citizens of Hickory
to attend the formal opening of "the
Worth Elliott- Carnegia Library on
Tuesday, August the fifteenth. It was
planned originally to open at an earlier
date but owing to the serious railroad
situation there, has been an unavoid
able delay in the shipment of books
and equipment, s: . .
In the past, the people of Hickory
have been very generous in the sup
port of the libarary and particularly
at this time we ; wish to thank Dr.
and - Mrs. Nicholson, Mrs. Alex . Shu
ford, Mr. M. E. Thornton, Mr. W. SP.
