CLUB TO HAVE PARTY ; The Business and Professional Wo men's club will have a Christmas tree and party on Thursday evening at 8 o'clock in the Buttercup Tea room. The program chairmen are Mrs. Nri i bel Shumate and Mrs. Clyde V. Price. On lastSaturday the Alia Pearl Lit tle Music clubs held their December meeting. It was arranged that each club have a guesjfrom the Senior Vi vo club to play for the other three clubs. The Junior Vivo club met with Vir ginia Bailey. Louise Van Tasseli der lighted the young folks with two piano solos and acted as judge in the two piano contests. In contest number one Virginia Bailey won the prize, a story book of Chopin. In contest number two, Ruth Lanier won first honor and Margaret Kubn j second honor. Mary Alice Coyle audi Natalie Coyle (Kinscella club. mem- bers) played attractive pieces. In the regular program were interesting readings, solos, duets, and a short , talk on how to practice scales in which ! all present took part. " Refreshments were served by the hostess. t The Kinscella club No. One was en tertained by Marjorie Warlick. Eliza beth Barkley was soloist guest and gave much pleasure by her solos. Be sides the program by the members, Helen Warlick -played Flying Horses, with spirit and style. Officers were appointed and plans for the progress of the club were form ed. After delightful refreshments were served the meeting adjourned. The Senior Vivo club had a very fine meeting at the home of Ruth Setzer. Two little members of the Kinscella No. One club played quite artistically "Ding, Dong, Bell." In a contest in which three mem-i bers rendered "The Song of The Book,"1 Elizabeth Barkley won first honor, re ceiving a Chopin medallion as prize. A verv interesting program and his tory lesson pi-oved helpful. Miss Jessie Patrick the judge m contests and an inspiring- visitor added much .to the enjoyment of the club by beautifully playing selections Irom Uacn, Kee- thoven and Saur. Another guest was Elizabeth Moore. ' Cocoa and cake were served. ' The Kinscella club No. Two met in Miss Little's studio. AH the members present took part in the program, and games. Seven members played m a contest. Marv Alice Coyle won the prize. Mary Dellinger was the judge in contest and also played for.the lit tle musicians. J .Great improvement in piano playing is sure to come if the pupils all put m to practice the things learned at these meetings. , " - The Hickory "Music Hour' proved to be a spur to greater effort and in terest and almost all ' of these , club members "'gave little programs on the evening of December 11th." The Philathea class of the Reformed church will hold their annual bazaar tomorrow afternoon from 12:30 to 0 o'clock in the Singer Sewing Machine Company's office. . There will be for sale a beautiful line of articles especially suitable for Christmas gifts at prices that will ap peal to Christmas shoppers. The little touch of hnd work adds greatly to the appreciation of a gift. Everybody is invited to attend. Adv. RETURN FROM NEW YORK Mr. A. Alex Shuiord, Mrs. B. B. Blacbwelder Mrs. H. C. Lutz and Mrs. 11. A. Grimes returned this morn ing from a delightful visit of ten days to New York. Mrs. Shuford who ac companied the party, ( stopped off in Baltimore for a visit before returning home. TREAT FOR OTEEN BOYS At this happy season when families are united and the Christmas spirit if everywhere, . we must not forget the boys at Oteen who are far from home, some .of .them never to return" again, with only memories of past Christmas es to bear them up. Arrangenmets are being made to send up treats and gifts and to make the day as happy a one as possible. The legion auxiliary is arranging to take care of Ward 1-7. Stockings art being filled by, the auxiliary and the p-ifts are being; sent tnrougn iuish Minnie Gwaltney. Each boy is to be remembered individually, the little per sonal touch from Hickory friends meaning much to these young men. Ail contributions for the .stockings are to be sent to Mrs. W. L.'Long, chairman, and the gifts to Miss Gwaltney. Through the efforts of Mrs. K. C. Menzies and her corps of assistants the ward looked after by the Hickory Red Cross canteen will be remembered as usual and contributions are to be sent to Mrs. Menzies home for. Ward 1-8. Ail who have promised gifts and donations for either of these two ward? are asked to remember the date ana place they are to be sent. Ward 1-3 will be looked alter by uie Philathea class of the. Reformed church, the young women of this class having been saving money tor tne oc casion for several months. Stockings will be filled and little personal gifts will be "included in each stocking. "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these, ye have done it unto me,'; said the Master.
