Dr. Robt. Morrison and family, of Shelby, who were lately visit ing Rev. R. H. Morrison and Capt.'J. G. Morrison and family, have returned home. Both of Catawaba. , Miss Fanny Hartsell has return ed from a visit to her friends in Stanley Creek. This is the nupital month of the Mocking Bird. Splendid rain ; crops fine. i The last persons spoken of last Week, Beal and Bynum, were found, and after arrest and being brought to trial, agreed to be made one, and were -joined by R. S. Reinhardt, Esq Our S. School will have an ex hibition and picnic on July 26th. Also there will be an exhibition on June 1st, at the close of Mr Royster's school. ; We are anx ious that each may be largely at tended. ' The political waters are begin ning to move around Tiere. Oh, what a, time we will have this year; watermelons, nice gentle men to vote for, and our hands well shaken, and sometimes a passable speech, and perhaps, by way of a change, a little whiskeyl Oh, oh! May 14th, 188S. Election temperature is slightly rising over McBrayer's withdrawal and the call for : the Convention to meet in Lenoir the 26th. Some think something is wrong, and all say the time is too soon people will be too busy. Another! elopement. William Stillwell left for other parts yes terday with the wife ! of Joseph Lynch. He only eighteen, she she forty-five years of age. What a pity! Why don't the girls quit wearing bustles j and powdering, &c, and captivating the boys, and put a stop to this violation of mor al and social law ? But I suppose they had j rather be fashionable than to marry. :; The school at this place will have an exhibition (not commence ment,) on the first day of June. All are invited. Mrs. Hamrick is sick, though not seriously. U Splendid season, crops good, and farmers hopeful.
