Nouee is reived from the head ters of the North Care in. i Tu Lrculosis Association that 37,000 SS, containing 199 Christmas Seal, each will be mailer! to as many homes in North Carolina today. Accompany ing the Seals is a letter requesting : the recipient to purcnase me Seals sent at one cent each in order that the fight against tuberculosis may be waged again next year. The letters are sent only to town and com munities in which the Association has no local chairman, and the receipts re ceived from this source constitute the main support of the State Associa tion, as in town where a chairman has charge of the work 75 per cent of 4.;n in that com- the receipts are . munityfor local tuberculosis work With the funds received from the mau sale totters the Association expects lo enlarge the clinic work, which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, is one of the most important phases ot the tuberculosis campaign. SANDCLAY TO BE BUILT IN NORTH BROOK A sandcl'ay road is soon to be built extending from Ben Sain's place in North Brook to the Burke County m three county corners section. This stretch of road is about 2 1-2 miles in length and will give the people in that section of Lincoln and in the edge of Burke an outlet to the other sandclay roads of this and adjoining counties. Mistrial Ordered With Lone Woman For Conviction Jury 10-2 for Ac quits. San Francisco, Dec 4. After 41 hours of deliberation.the jury compos ed of seven men and five women which tried Roseoc Arbuckle on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of Vrigfnia Rappe, w: discharged toduy when it was unable to agvee upon .t verdict. The jury was brought into court at its own request r.t noon, reported h disagreement and asked that it be dis charged. August Frifee, foreman of the Arbuckle jury, issued a signed statement tonight, saying that one of the women jurors, who was in the mi nnrirv refused to ennidser the evi dence from the beginning, and declared that "she would cast her ballot and toould not change it until hell froze over."
