THURSDAY, ()CTC)B Llf 17 1923 YOUR MAGNIFICENT OPPORTUNITY ( By Wickes Wamboldt) Every person in this world has one magnificent, eollossal opportunity. People will read this who will dis pute my statement and say, ‘1 never had such an opportunity. hen did a magnificent, collossal chance ever come my way ? ” I will tell you. When you were born into the world. Thatgave you your big chanet, and as long as you are in the world you still have your big chance. When an inhabitant of this plane says he has had no chance, he clear ly demonstrates that he does not know what he is here for. It would be just as correct for a boy placed in the first grade at school to look around and say, “I have no chance.” He has evrey chance in the world if he will apply himself. It would be just as correct for the office boy of a large business house to say, “i have no chance."'There are many presidents of corporations who wer> once office boys. The world is our great chance— our tremendous opportunity—and wc are put here with the idea that we will make use of this poprtounity. Now, when was say opportunity - we are apt to think only of money. Money is a good thing. It represents the necessities and luxuries of life and we need a certain amount of it. But the chance ttPmake money Is not our greatest opportunity. The real opportunity this world offers is the chance to learn, through varied and repeated experiences, haw to be decent, how to be wholesome how to be fair and septate with out fellows, how to get ready to occupy a better place later on. The little boy in the first grade in school is given the opportunity t( enter the second grade. We in this world are given the opportunity to enter a better world. We are here be cause we need ,vhat this world can teach. When we were born our oppor tunity began and each day that we live our opportunity continues. The local American Legion Pos; will offer to the public moving pie ture show houses next week three pictures of interest, one, “The Home Town” picture taken during the fes tival week, another, “The ex-Kaiser in Exile” and the third an authentic picture of “The Occupation of the Ruhr by the French Armies,” These pictures are educational and should be seen by all that can.'The prices to be chargd will be figured to take care of the expense of showing these pictures which the Post has arranged for showing. The Post also has con tracted to show a mus'eal number by local talent in November wuh prospects of further showing of other numbers if patronage is sufficient to justify. Since there is no lyceum course this season the legionaircs wish to help enter o n the c ,nimuni r, '1th g; 1 mrar*. -O OSCAR TRUELOVE IS KILLED IN COLLISION IN WAUGHTOWN Winston Salem, October 4.—Oscar B.
