Z3. One year's tent of the Federal Reserve Bank system has shown its superiority over the central bank plan, according , to Paul M. Warburg of the Federal Re serve Board, who spoke here tonight at a dinner given by the mayor of Charlotte. "Some of my friends," said M Warburg, "sometimes have stated that they believed me to ba central bank man. If I were free today! to choose for this country between one central bank or a system constructed upon tho Federal Reserve principle, T would choose the latter. Admiral Winslow's flagship, the cruiser San Diego has been ordered to Topolob ampo, on the Mexican coast, to pro tect Americans. Others in the inte rior are threatened by Yaqui Indians, the Navy Department today announc ed". The San Diego carries 275 mar ines to be landed if necessary. Ad miral Winslow was given discretion ary powers. He will arrive in six days. Los Mbchis, where the danger is greatest, is 15 miles from the coast. No Americans are known to have been killed yet The Indians are re ported to be destroying property. STATE FORESTRY ASSOCN IN NEW BERN IN JANUARY First Meeting of Association to Be Called In Eastern Part of State- Pine Industry of Section Important. Protection of Forests PSWBPSMMBSB (Special to The Free Press) New Bern, Nov. 24. The annual convention of the North Carolina Forestry Association will be held here on January 18 and Id. It will be the sixth annual meeting of the associa tion. Nathan O'Berry of Goldsboro, well-known throughout the country in lumber manufacturing circles, is pres ident of the organization. "The coastal plain region of this State is the seat of the North Caro lina pine industry and is the greatest lumbering region Northeast of Louis iana," says a letter issued by the executive committee. "New Bern can well be considered the heart of this industry, and a large number of whose chief interest is the utilization of timber can most conveniently at tend." This is the first time the aasocia tion has been callod to meet in the Eastern part of the State. The or ganization has as its object promo tion of protection of the forests of North Carolinn from fire and from destructive insects, and to promote their prepetuation by wise use and by tho restoration of cut over and aban doned lands. SURRY PARKER THINKS KINSTON FAIR WAS AS GOOD AS BEST OF 'EM Surry Parker, the well-known Pine own. N. C, capitalist, was here on Tuesday afternoon jn his automobile. Mr. Parker attended the recent fair here, and Came to The Free- Pres of fice for papers which he was to clip. He keeps a scrap book of all "such things." The local fair, Mr. Parker said, was as good as that at Rich mond, although not so much of it. He saw all in this section of the country this fall, and praises Kinston's exhib- ta sky-high. Parker's career has been an inter esting one. He has built many miles of the Norfolk Southern Railroad. First, the link from Plymouth to Washington. He owned that link at first. How he came to ret rid of it s variously told. Then he built the Bishop's Crossing-Belhaven line, un der contract. Seven Pro gressive representatives will hold a caucus next week, Representative Martin of Louisiana today said, to de termine whother they will maintain a separate organization or join the Republicans. The Progressives, Republican Sen ator Norris, of Iowa, today said, fat vored a 50 per cent. Inheritance tax on legacies larger than $25,000,000, and a lesser rate on smaller fortunes to meet the expense of the prepared ness program. He favors a program to remove the profits from prepared ness. Senator Phekn of California today indicated that he advocates a tax on profits of munition makers. Senator Norris said he favors the Senate cloture rule provided it is accompan ied by another caucus clause. CRAZED BLACK WITH WEAPONS DEFIED A HUNDRED AYDENITES A belated report from Ayden tells of a small-sized riot there on last Sat urday when David Evans, a crazy ne gro, defied the police and a hundred citizens. With a heavy stick and an open knife he held all hands at bay a quarter of an hour. The police hesitated to shoot Evans, knowing his demented condition. ,: Negroes assisted the white citizens and officers.
