The most extreme silver men hardly expected such a plat form, - The Washington Times speaks of the present administration as the 'duck hunting dynasty."' All you need to do to be'popular these days is to abuse the presidentcall him traitor, king, or something of the kind. ' The North Carolina delegation to Chicago are to have quarters at the Sherman House while in that city. . We are a little surprised at this! The very name of Sherman puts a bad taste in the mouths ot North Carolina Democrats. Our delegates should be careful into whosecompany they fall. "Saer man House ' is not a name to con jure with down here! The Rockingham Index, an inde pendent paper with Republican leanings, edited by a nephew of Col. O. H. The State Democratic Conven tion last week was the next larg est in the history of the party. AU the schemes "of the traders have miscarried so far. The ticket nom inated is a good one a3 good as any one could expect to be put up by the dominant element of the Democratic party of this State The nominees of the Convention are all men of character aud integ rity. They have all been more or less promiuent in North Carolina politics for some years past. They are all men who will work for the good of the State. The platform is not what it tmould be. The denunciation oi the administration could very eas ily have been omitted. Nothing will be gained by such a course It was expected that the Conven tion wMild not endorse the admin istration's financial policy, but it wag expected that the Convention would endorse it in other respects It does not become Democrats t denounce their own administration and to hiss and jeer the name of the chief executive of Go millions ot people. Such work deserves con demnation. Decent respect lor the powers that be ought have prompt ed h different course. It is a sad fact that there are 6o many men in this State who think it popular to denounce Cleveland and bis ad ministration. - But the ticket has been put up. The State must not be ruled by Russell and his crowd. Th bilver question is amatter for tho nation al convention. It should not In allowed to interfere with our de feat of Russell and the whole Pop. ulit-r-Republican lay out.
