Hoke Smith went back to Washington Tuesday night, after spending some time with his fam ily at the Inn. His wife and chil dren will visit at Judge Hoke's, beginning Saturday. Messrs Simp, and Michael Schenck arrived in the city yester day evening at 7 o'clock, en route from Greensboro to Lincolnton, on their wheels. The trip was made through-the rain most of the time. Charlotte Observer, Wed- nesdav. A Rowing Party. Miss Iie-sie Motz gave a rowing party Tuesday evening in honor of Miss Lily Yancey, of Marion, to which a number of y.ung jMople were invited. The evening was spent on the river and supper wan served on the river bank by moon light. The occasion was much en joyed by all who were fortunate enough to have had an invitation. There is a town ordinance re quiring that each property owner keep up his own sidewalks, and, if not, then the town authorities aru to fix up the walks at the expense of said property. This ordinance ought to be enforced or repealed. Some of the sidewalks are in very bad condition.
