People say they do nut want fifty-cent dollars, ana an appeal to the inherent tense of justice trying to show silver dolUr is a fifty cent dollar. They value ailver by the bullion, which cannot get to he mint, and aaiume it will be only worth fifty cents under free coinage. Under tree coinag a new demand is created. 1 cannot il lustrate it better than thii way: At home we got butter for twenty - five, cents a pound the year round. The farmer eoes to towu in the fall and contracts for all the bnt- ter he thinks he will produce. In the spring he finds he has more. and sells it for fifteen cents a pound because nobody standi ready to take hii surplus at twenty-five cents. So with silver. If ihe mints are qpened so every man with an ounce of silver can convert it iuto money, there would be no surplus to drag down the price. Cau the United States take all the silver offered ? It so, we can maiutuin the parity. The only way to know absolutely is to try, but we are en couraged to try. Remember the silver of.France, Eugland andOer many nearly all coined aud used iu the world is worth more now as compared with gold, than itj would be here, France has more silver in circulation percapita than we havp, and it circulates at 15$ to 1. Not an ouuee has come here without rising 3 cents. The silver of England is worth more at home. and it would hurt Eugland more han us, because there are more people there that use silver than ever see a piece gold. China, Japan and India must have their supply, and we would take only what is left. At Concord, Sept. 17th. A dollar is not like a yard stick one is a length ; the other a measure. One does not change in length, but the other does in value. You all learned at school that a rod of iron, just so long at zero, is dif ferent when you make it red hot. It is longer, almost twsce as loug. red hot, as when at zero. If the yard 9tick were to chauge, every man would want to carry a red-hot measure with him, for it would be longer, but the merchant would say, "No," aad go to his refrigcra tor and get his standard of meas ure. I use this by illustration, because our opponents are always talking about yard sticks. Now if we had a yard stick that expanded or con tracted, the first Legislature that meets would fix it at a certain tem perature. A dollar should not be larger one time and smaller at an other time. Any legislature could fix the value of the dollar. Th? trouble is, our opponents make the dollar dear, and deny that legisla tion makes the dollar. I want to assert as a proposition that the money of a country must keep pace with the population. Falling pric es are a great thing for the man was not a ductnr in Chi tnwr..
