Forney Ooocjson had a bair- breadth escape from a horrible death a few days ago at his saw-mill in Ironton township. He had stopped the mill to pack the engine. While the engineer was at work on the en gine, v Mr. Goodson concl uded -to sharpen the saw. Hewent into the saw pit and began work, the saw be ing ; between j his knees and right against his body. The engineer not knowing that Mr. Goodson was at work in the saw pit. started up the engine. The saw teeth caught in Mr. Goodson's clothing, jerked him up over the saw and threw him head foremost a' considerable distance.' Strange to say he escaped serious in jury. Beyond a slight abrasion of the skin on the abdoliiien and bruises received in the fall, lie was unhurt On a Visit to His Old Home. Mr. F. V. Seagle, proprietor of the Arlington Hotel at Gainesville, Fla., accompanied by his son, J. F. Sea gle, arrived here Tuesday and will spend a week visiting his brother, Mr. Abel Seagle. Mr. Seagle went to Florida in 1854, and made several visits to his old home here, but this is his first visit in nine years. He will remain, until Tuesday of next week, when he will return to Florida, his son going on to Washington and Baltimore." Fire Near Town. Mr. W. A. Rudisill, who lives near town came near losing his dwelling by fire Saturday. The fire was caused , by a defective, stove-flue. Only one member of the family, a lady, was at home at the time. When the fire was discovered by thd neighbors it had made consider able headway and a part of the ell had fallen in before they could get to the place, but by hard work they succeeded in saving the building.
