The President and cabinet would seize on it. The crucial are a unit in the determination to maintain the constitutional power of the government with Federal troops whenever it may be neces sary. "Coxey's fizzle," now encamped as a freak show at ISright wood race track, just outside of the city limits, will, unless the programme of Coxey, the chief fakir, be changed, march into the city to morrow. The gang is not numer ous enough to make any trouble, even if they were so disposed. If ttiere were ten times as many of ihem as thre are, there would t no apprehension of trouble in Washington as every precaution lias been taken to deal with anv infaction of the law. There are about 300 men in the camp and the kind of men they are may be judged from these remarks of one of the thousands who visited the camp yesterday : ''If the authori ties would issue an order stating that every man in camp would be given a bath, dressed in clean clothes and put to work tomorrow, I would wager ten to one that j nine-tenths cf them would be I cone by morning." He sized them ! up correctly. At least nine-tenths ! of thera are professional tramps j here only to be fed. It will be no surprise to many j shrewd publishers who have re j ceived its Col. Seller's '"Millions i in it" circulars asking for adver j tising, to learn that the ' Press i Claims Co.' of Washington has ! got into court. Mr. W. R. Hearst j son of the late Senator Hearst, and publisher of the San Francisco ( Examiner, has asked the court to ; oust John Wedderburn, manager of the above company and of the I 'Examiner Bureau of Claims," in j which Mr. Hearst was a paitner, and t appoint a receiver to close I up the business. He says that j Wedderburn has injured the repu j tation of the San Francisco Ex jaminer by the mismanagement of ; business entrusted to him by con fiding subscribers of that paper, and by adverti.-ing . to give prizes , for inventions; that he has with out authority created a large in debtedness and signed a note for I $8,000 with th-? tirnfs name, and that he has refused to refund , money to certain clients', subscrib ers to the St. Paul Pioneer Press arid the Omaha Bee, in accordance with contrails made with them. Secretary Hoke Smith rejoices in the posset-si'.n of a backbone of the Cleveland brand, as Mr Spen cer, U. S. Pension agent for Indi ana, has discovered. Mr. Spencer lately removed one of his clerks and appointed his sister to the va cancy. As soon as the attention of the department was called to the matter the frieiuJs of the discharged clerk made sure that it didn't take long Mr. Spencer was notified thiit he must revoke the appointment of his sister, as it was a rule of the dei.aitme t that n peii:iion agnt sball appoint a relative t otliee. Mr. Editor: We feel that Stan ley must have a representation for the columns of the Courier. Stan ley is located on the C. C. R. R. 14 ! miles below Lincoln ton and 20 mibs from Charlotte. It is a beautiful little village of about 350 inhabitants. It is a healthy place The Methodists, Baptists, Presby terians, and Lutherans each have churches here.
