Our excellent Wesley Chapel cor-res-ondent says that the farmers in his section are leaving off their grain sowing to some extent in anticipa tion of increasing their cotton acre age. This is not surprising. Cotton is now at a price which gives the far mer a gii-d profit, and certainly he lias been on short profits long enough, mid the temptation to neglect the other crops for cotton is a very natu ral and a very strong one. While cotton is high anil going up yet, with every prosect for a good price for a long time,' still we don't know what a year may bring forth. It is to be hoped that our farmers will n.-t take the chalice of crippling themselves Vy neglecting their supply crops. , Mr. John K. Morris, iet, prose writer, commercial traveller and big hearted gentleman, died at a hospital in Baltimore last Saturday, having been taken there from his home in Cioldsboro lo be treated for diabetes. There is no private citizen, perhaps, in Xorth Carolina whose death would have been regretted by more people. He travelled over the Slate for many years as a salesman, and lieside the great number of people, who knew him personally in business relations, perhaps a larger circle knew him by hia writings. A splendid intellect, coupled with untiring energy, classed him, wi'liout the aid of the schoola, as a man of learning and the most extensive culture. Dr. J. V. Jay, the Buncombe coun ty man who murdered hi three chil dren, was sentenced to the peniten tiary for thirty years. Evidently the man was crazy when be committed the deed, but if he had been proven no he would have gone to the crimi nal insane department of the peni Jeirrtaryv , N".
