Thelirond Hack of thcAverae Man Have you read the article on the i:.. ... ... i. .. i i ii i -. . , ,. , if nisi I'iie neaueii r?.n ' i ji.ire a Year for the Average Southern Far. mer.' If not, turn n.oht back imw and read every line of it, whether J on lie farmer, lawyer, merchant, diietor, manufacturer or lioothluck. The prosperity of the country rests upon the broad shoulders of the av erage man. in the South the aver ne man is the farmer, because n) percent, of the people are farmers. This article is not intended to point out the defects of farmers, but tol show other classes-all of us-1 wo are reany Dependent upon his success, not because he "feeds the world" as is often said, but because his occupation is the dominating one in the South. The statistics show that th average S.mthern farm makes $.0O a year less than it should. To Rot that extra five hun dred is the problem. For it are the improved methods and the hundreds of activities that the government and individuals are carrying on; the agricultural schools, agricultural de partments of the Stategand the Unit ed States, and all their various activ ities, the experiment farms and the demonstration work, the activities of leading farmers, statesmen and writ ers. You see the extra five hundred dollars ia not an individual proposi tion, it concerns the whole South from Governor to day laborer. This is (he broad, statesman -like view and it is the one (bat we all need to get in mind, as Editor Poe points out. Some who read it will, with a line display of wisdom highly prized by themselves, say it "is a givin' advis' t' farmers," but the thought ful, who can take a large view of things, will see its truthfulness.
