"A little more than two years aco a local option election was held in Wadeaboro which resulted in a vic tory for the opponents of open sa loons by a majority of 6. Another local electiou was held Tuesday, at which the followina vote was cast: "For saloons. 160: asainst sa loons. 107 majority for saloons. 53. "For stills, 137; asainst stills. 125 Majority for stills. 12." The above is from the last week's j Issue of the Wadesboro Messenger: and Intelligencer. It is a j:reat cause I for rejoicing. The sturdy manhood j of the good old county has asserted. Itself and freedom sits ncain upon; the mountain heights. The preach ers, the women and other fanatics have been put to rout. Kverybody, who believes In the natural rie'us of: man should uive a whoop and go to Wades bo ro and take a drink. It will be remembered that cotton took a spurt Friday. The New Yoik American tells the following story in its Saturday issue as to the cause of it: "A little luncheon at Delnionlco's. in Beaver street, was responsible for tion as a leader in the cotton market, yesterday. "Col. W. P. Brown, who has risen from a grocery clerkship to the posi tion as a lead re in the cotton market. and Frank B. Hayne, scion of oue of the oldest families in the South, were the chief members of the little lunch eon party. When they met yester day they compared notes and agreed there was a pretty good opportunity to make a little spending money. they decided to buy 100.000 bate of December cotton. They took tiM :'u' deal several of the other South rn cotton dealers who are now in the! city. Then they adjourned over to .; the cotton exchange, and inside of 15 minutes they had changed the ap- j pearance of the entire cotton pit.j Cotton, under the personal buying of the Southern leaders, jumped sever-j al points at a time, and the many lit-, tie bears got scared and fairly perani- j Mod ever one another in an effort to ; cover, even the great bear leaders.' among them Theodore Trice, became j worried. The other bulls, especially j the so-called Wall Street crowd, fell , in with the movement, and before the Southerners had had heen able to, take in more than 5". 000 bales, the: price of December cotton had vanoivl 20 points, to 10.77."' ji oj6 - loir. mu - ufflyfl REVISION - SALE THAI IIIRS EXAMIXATIOX.
