A list ol ibe States giving the number of school days in the year, puts North Carolina next to the lowest. Beginning with Rhode at the top with 190 c’avs v\’e strike North Carolina the 47 State in the list next to New J^Iexico the last with a 93 days school year. New Mexico having only 90 days. South Carolina has one more school da^^ than North Carolina, and she has Cole B’.ease, North Carolina with 93 school days turns loose her belter class murderers, Vir ginia with 37 more school days electrocutes hers. There is a great many things that more school days, and a better educated citizenry would help to eliminate in North Caro lina, ai lepiSl. it would not permit the siiame, and sham of Legis latures, that do not seem to regard the peoples interest what ever \^ hen ihey go to Raleigh with strinofs t'-‘d to them. Let North Carolira have more school days, and better paid teachers, and in ten year?, she would not be disgr^t'fni with the highest death rate of any State on the Atlantic Coast. H; r members in the Legit^^^t-ure would not permit her people to be rot^bed for premium? on five million dollars annually firs insurance that policies could Lot be collected in full in case of loss, for the simple reason that a company may get behind the insurance adjuster, and fix values after it is reduced to ashes. Oive the boys and girls a longer school year, and more elightei^ment, and in less than ten years they will arrange a crimina. code that would not permii' ihe picking of juries to try a murder ca.^e frorn the illiterates, and iinbecils of the State. Give South ( aro^lna a longer school year and she would kick Bleasism to hades in a hurry. It is all the result of ignorance, and the States tiiat permit it are aping the ni-thods of priest ridden Europe tv/o centures ago. A CREDITABLE ISSUE. The Historical, and Industrial Edition of the Greensboro Daily New’s issued Sunday last Dec. 8th, IS a paper of rare merit refleciing much credit upon the 'laborers, and ow’ners of that en terprising Journal. It is a happy, ] and a distinctive tribute to the thriving City for which it efforts were aimed at eulogising. One sees mirrored upon it’s pages, the wonderful industrial activites of this Gate City of the South. Greensboro is making rapid strides in the field of commercial, and manufacturing enterprises, and to no agency is it more indebted for the healthy stimu lus to its growth than to the Greensboro Daily News. THE BLIGHT OF CHOLERA Turkey is facing a foe, far more relentless, and destructive than the Bulgarians, in the prevalence of Aoiatic cholera. If it does get sure foot hold in Constan- tinoi;!e victims will fall like grain befoi e the cycle in harvest time. The woivt sjourge that has ever preva’h d in continental Europe has hoen visitations of cholera, and we arp under the impression that Turk:y, and especialy Constantinople is peculiarly ripe for it's spi’ead. The Turk is a fanatic, a fellow, but little disposed to fight against what he terms fate, and he much regards the.^e \iSitations of contagious diseases, as fate. The cry to AUah will not save them, when a i.unc-red perish a day. lontinued on first pagre. ^Compaaii OarmtQti HOWEVER handsome the man may be an ill fitting suit spoils bis looks.
