BOOTS, SHOES, HATS, Washington, Nov 20, 1885: Editor of the Morganton Star : Everything in Washington is bustle and preparation for Congress and the social season. Senators and Representatives are dropping in the city, and the crowds on Pennsylvania avenue are larger every day. Men talk politics, the work of the coming session, the probable attitude of the Senate to the President, the Speakership, and the leadership of the Republican minority in the House, which will be decided soon in caucus. Ladies talk dinners, receptions, and toilets. They are under the influence of milliners and modistes, in prepara tion for the part they are to take in society's winter carnival. majority of the Senators are oppos ed to him in politics. Some Demo cratic Senators are opposed to the course he has pursued in regard to appointments. Some of these have declared their intention of oppos ing him on the ground that his nominations are not Democratic in the sense that they should be, and further as a means of forcing him to make more changes than he seems inelined to make. To the Senate thus constituted, the Presi dent will have to submit a variety of nominations. Its attitude to wards him will be watched with great interest. I'atcnts Granted.
