While vou are voting be Mire to schools. put in a ballot for Rev. R. L. Patton will preach at Glen Alpine next Sunday, April 30th, at 3 p. m. Mrs. G. A. Grier, of Ashe ville, is visiting her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Parker, in Mortranton. Read Mr. John Cillev's statement on the electric light plant. It is printed on our supplement this week. Mr. Hufh Hallvburton has bought a half interest in Mr. W. S. McRary's blacksmith and woodworking shop and went to work there Monday. Commencing next Monday, May 1st, the stores of Mor ganton will close every even ing, except Saturday, at 7 o'clock, until September 1st. It g-ives us great pleasure to be able to state with confi dence that the reports that have been in circulation charg ing our young townsman Mr. Horace Payne with the mis appropriation of funds in trusted to his care, have no foundation in fact and that his integrity now stands undis- puted. The Bratton Company ap peared at the Town Hall Wednesday and Thursday nights and will present 4 'Room 44" to-night. They will also give a matinee to-morrow afternoon for the ladies and school children, and will also appear to-morrow night. They give a good show for the money and the attendance has been fairly rood. Mr. W. D. Lackey and an other gentleman, of Cleveland county, came here yesterday on the hunt of John Wilson, a negro, charged with breaking into Mr. Lackey's store at Bel wood Tuesday night. The negro had been arrested and was being taken to Shelby by the sheriff, who was riding horseback with the negro up behind him. Before reaching Shelby the negro knocked the sheriff from the horse and escaped. At the Court House To night. The Cyrene Vaudeville Con cert Company, advertised to appear at the court house this Friday evening, comes here very highly endorsed for its excellence and cleanliness. Cyrene, the star of the com pany, has an international fame as a novelty performer, and endorsements shown in this office indicate that she is unquestionably one of the world s greatest artists. We are in receipt of a letter from the Hickory Democrat stating that the company appeared in Hickory and that representa tions made by the company in their advertisements may be relied upon. The prices con sidering the importance of the attraction, are very small. Children and all pupils in schools 10 cents, others 25. A. C. Avery, Jr., for Mayor. Mr. Editor: In your last isue you suggested it was time to trot out candidates mayor We think it high time the young men are recognized more, there- ore I name A. C. Avery, Jr., who has been much spoken ot in this eoti- nectiou and we think fully qualified to fill the position. The man is uamed, et us elect him. A Young Voter. Municipal Ticket. Kilgo, president of Trinity College, has accept ed an invitation to deliver the closing address to the Mor- jjfanton Male Academy Monday night, May 22nd, in the court house. Notice to the Public.
