has been examined for the
position of first lieutenant in
the regular armv, but will not
hear the result until about
the first of the new year.
A telephone message from
Lenoir Tuesday brought the
news of the sudden -death of
Mr. Thomas Triplett, Sr., of
that town. Deceased was a
very old man and dropped
'lead while walking in his
van I.
Christmas for the County Home.
A concert, under the aus
pices of the W. C. Tem
perance Union of Morgan ton,
will be given at the Court
House next Tuesday night,
proceeds to go to the inmates
of the County Home.
One of the chief features of
the entertainment will be
"The Deestrict School," pre
sided over by W. A. Leslie,
master. The advertisement
states that among the "little
boys' in the "Deestrict Spell
ing Class" will be "Duncan
Cameron Pearson, Geo. Locke
Phifer, Lambert Augustus
Bristol, Alphonso Calhoun
Avery, John Tull, Robert
Clay well and Joseph Lavender
Laxton." We are requested
to ask the members of the
class to provide themselves
with a copy of the old Blue
Back spelling book.
The price of admission is
only 10 cents, and we predict
that the entertainment will be
