SCHOOL NOTES. and their little daughter Mabel will spend their vaca tion at Goldsboro and mostlv at Mrs. Miller's home in Ohio. The school is quite a lonely place now, with the exception of a few; all the teachers and child ren left Wednesdav and Thursday. Among those who will spend 9th. Supt. Goodwin took the afternoon train for Raleigh to see his new daughter. She is a fine little miss, and tip ped the scales at lly pounds. Mr. and Mrs. Betts will spend part of their vacation at their homes in Raleigh and Sampson county. Mr. Betts will probably spend a month the summer here are John i at Chapel Hill Summer School Carroll, Newton Watkins, Charles Ramsev, Leslie Meb ane, James Robertson, Ed ward Dail and Oscar Hamlet. Miss Miriam Fuller Good win was born in Raleigh, June and Mrs. Betts will take a six weeks course of art in New York. The News and the Thrice-a-Week N. Y. World both one vear for $1.35. A Department of Cooking to be Organ ized for the Girls -Teachers and Officers Elected Local and Personal. We cull the following Deaf ,tni Dumb School notes from tin Kelly Messenger of the ih: The Board of Directors at their meeting June 4th and 5th, ordered the opening of a caking department for the nrls. The department will be put under a competent wo man who will teach the girls practical cooking and the ordi nary part of culinary science. The directress for this de partment has not yet been chosen. All the details of equipping and opening the ne w department is left to the Superintendent and Executive Cmn mi t tee. All of the Board were pres ent except Mr. Broughton, of Raleigh. The Superintendent made a brief report of the working of the school. The following list of teachers and officers were elected. Supt. Goodwin was re-elected for a term of three years, begin ning Sept. 1st. All the other teachers and officers were elected for one year: Capt. Geo. L. Phifer, stew ard; Mrs. Mary B. Malone, matron; Misses Walton, Kelly and Collett, supervisors; John Ballew, engineer; P. T. Mea- cham. farmer; C. F. Brown, expert in charge of carpentrv; W. A. W. Haynes. LOCAL AND PERSONAL PARA GRAPHS. The institution closed its year's work on Wednesday, all of the pupils leaving on that day and the day following. Mr. Tillinghast will spend his vacation at home. Mrs. Lathum will spend the summer in Asheville. Miss Young will spend the summer in Raleigh. Mrs. York and her daughter Laura left on Monday. Miss Welsh will spend va cation at her home inFayette- ville. Miss Flemming will spend her vacation at her home in Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. Hurd will divide their time between Morgan ton and Table Rock. Miss Simms will spend a few weeks in Raleigh before going to her new home in Brvan, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Hofsteater will spend the summer in Morganton, watching their new house go up. Miss McDaniel will spend most of her vacation at home and at Catoosa Spring, near Chattanooga, Tenn. All the members of the Board with the exception of Mr. N. B.
