A Merry Christmas to all of our readers. Mr. F. M. Pelonhet, of New Jersey, is stopping at Mr?. Goodson's. Misses. Addie and Carrie Sides, of Hilderbrand, are visiting at Mr. D. B. Mull's. Mrs. Sallie Smyre, of New ton, is visiting her father, Esq. James Mull, near town. Mrs. Horace Payne left Tuesdav for Salisbury to be present at the marriage of her brother. The streams are considera bly swollen to-day as a result of the heavy rains and snow yesterday and last, night. Mrs. H. F. Kistler, with her two daughters, Misses Tessie and Ava, wilt move to Rutherford College on day. Mr. William Avery, of Qua ker Meadows, is critically ill. His condition is such that but little hope is entertained of his recovery. Mr. Jno. C. Miller, one of the teachers in the D. cS: D. School here, left to-day for Goldsboro, his old home, to spend Christmas. Sheriff McDowell was in deed a swell negro at the cake walk last night. Someone said he looked like Lark Mc Galliard when Lark is dressed up. The following young men from Marion attended the band concert herelast Friday night: Messrs. The closing exercises of Patton School were held this evening in the school building. The program consisted of songs, declamations, recita tions, etc. The session just closed was one of the most prosperous in the history of this school. The next session opens Dec. 31, 1900.
