CoMinity Ne Twentieth Century Masque a THE SOCIAL EVENT OF THE SEASON, AT THE COURT HOUSE NEXT MONDAY NIGHT, DEC. 31ST. A BIG CEOWD WILL ATTEND AND A JOYFUL TIME EXPECTED. IS Proceeds Go to the Confederate Bazaar and the Morganton Band. The social event of the sea son will take place next Mon dav night at the Court House in Morganton, beginning at 9 o'clock the masque ball to be given by the young men of the town for the benefit of the Confederate Bazaar and the Morganton Band. Invitations have been vent out to other towns and a large number of visitors are expected besides fie big crowd of home people who will attend. The invita tions read as follows: You are invited to attend a Twentieth Century Masque Ball at Morganton December Thirty-first, Nineteen Hundred, Nine P. M. The Morganton Band will furnish the music for the ball. Hefner-Tate. Mr. Hefner, of Hickory, and Miss Willie Tate, daugh ter of Esq. H. C. Tate, of Burke, were married at the circuit parsonage in Morgan ton, bv Rev. J. W. Jones, on Wednesday, the 26th, and left for the groom's home the same day. Personal Mention and Items of Hews by Our Eegnlar Hospital Reporter, A child of Rev. W. K.Houk has measles. Miss Pattie McAdams is visiting at her home in Ala mance this week. All of the employees here those of the sporting kind went bird hunting Tuesday. Mrs: L. A. Brittain and son Eugene, of Dallas, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Walton. Misses Ha Kincaid, Lillie Patton and Mamie Stacy spent a day or two at Nebo the past week. Mr. James B. Murphy came home Saturday from Horner School, Oxford, to spend the holidays. Rev. George Long, of Con- over, spent two days with Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Grady, near the Hospital, last week. Mr. Walter Nelson, of Pat terson, visited his brother here, Mr. John L. Nelson, last week for a day or two. Mr. J. S. Parsons was called to the home of his mother, in Caldwell count', last week by the critical sickness of the later. Mr. George Marsh came up Tuesday evening from Atlan ta on a visit to his mother, Mrs. C. A. Marsh, at the Hospital. Mrs. J. H. 0. Carter and her mother, Mrs. Williams, went to Bessemer City Wed nesday on a visit for awhile with relatives. Nellie, the 18-months-old child of Mr. John F. Wood ward, died on Wednesday of last week. The family have the deep sympathy of every one. this beiner the second child to die in about ten days. Everybody seems to have had a satisfactory Christmas in and about the Hospital, though it is perpetual with Andrew Scroggs and Johny Maclachlan, it seems, tor they continue hilarious and joyful in the midst of their toy shops. Our popular Register of Deeds, Mr. J. Hamp Giles, has been confined to his home for several days from sickness. .Mr. and Mrs. Zennie Mc- Galliard left on the 25th for Baltimore. Mrs. McGalliard goes to Johns Hopkins Hos pital for treatment. The many friends of Mr. Harrison Golloway will be sorry to learn that his condi tion does not improve. He is now critically ill at his home in West Morganton. Mr. J. D. Berrv, who re- cently moved to the Michaux farm on John's River, was in town Saturday. He has bought a good farm on Upper Creek in Burke county, but will not get possession till next year as it was rented be fore he purchased. Lenoir Topic. V Mr. Geo. Thomason, who recently sold his farm near Lenoir, has bought a farm near Table Rock, in Burke countv. We regret to lose Mr. Thomason from our county, but congratulate our neighbors in Burke upon se curing him. He came here several years ago from Cataw ba. Lenoir Topic.
