The State has chartered the LnGrange Manufacturing Co., of LaGfange, with fwwer to manufacture cotton goods, ee, build and operate water, ice and electric light plants, authorized capital $30,000. The Collins Gin Co., of Mays ville, Jones county, has also been char tered, with power to manufacture cot ton goods, authorized capital $10,000. A business establishment can no more afford to be careless and slip shod in its advertising than in any other depart ' ment. Just as good window-dressings is essential to the success of a store, so Ms freshness, novelty and whatever attracts favorable attention necessary to the best results in advertising. There is nothing hup-haziird and accidental about an al luring window display. Not less care should be given to the advertising dis play .Philadelphia Record. , It is said that LaGrange has it in for Kinston; that some of the LaGrnnge snorts have put up a lot of money and engaged a professional battery for the . baseball game nere tomorrow murnoou. Kinston's team is weakened by some of the players being away, and it would be no great surprise if La Grange should win with her hired men. The Kinston boys will, however, put up a brave and deter mined game, and win. if it is possible for pluck and determination to do eo. The new brick warehouse of the A. & ,N. C. II. K. in Kinston will bo about 40x2."0 feet, and will be located where . the old wooden warehouse now stands. Work oa it will be begun next week and it is to be completed by September 1st. It will be large enough to take care of the shipments of both cotton and to bacco. Skylights will be put in the roof of the building. Overman, of Salisbury, and Kd W. l'ou, of Smithfleld, have ac cepted invitations to be present and epenk at the great WhiteSupremacy rally in Kinston on Thursday, July 2G. They are among the finest speakers in the State. Col. A.M. Waddell, Gov. Jarvis and Hon. Dan Hugh McLean hare also been invited to Ive here on the above oc easion, but have not been heard from yet. It is hoped that tbey will also accept the invitations. It will be the greatest rally of white men end women ever held in Lenoir county. ' , NEWBERN a' WINNER. Takes First and Second Prizes in Engine Contests. Wilmington, X. C., July 11. The 12th annual State Firemen's tournament waa opened today with a magnificent parade, Which was witnessed by an immense throng. In the engine contest for best time, from start to finish, the Newbern Button , company took the first prize, lowering the State and world's record with 2.37 1-5 iweonds. The Atlantic team, of the same ritT, took second prize, with a record of 2.4i3-r,. . The Goldnboro Eclipse took the first Srira in the borne hose-wagon contest, ewbera Button took second and Wilson boae company No. 51 third. Asheviilewon in State hook and ladder rai-e with Winnton, who took second.
