Tucker, while carelessly : handling a pistol at bis heme near Kins ton this morningwas shot through the right hand. Dr. W. T. Parrott dressed ' the wound. The Free Press was in error in pub lishing in its State news column that the postoffice at Scotland Keck was short 9170 in its funds. We got the item from ome other paper. , , Mr. C. M. Kirkman, of Smitbfleld, re cently of Littleton, a registered pharma cist, bas accepted a position with bis uncle, Mr. J. E. Hood. We are glad to oumber Mr. Kirkman among the Kins tonlans. Capt. George Turner, of , Pink Hill township, bas been appointed and has accepted the appointment of sub-elector for Bryan and Stevenson and will at once proceed to organize the clubs and canvass the county. ' The ladies are making vast prepura , tione for the bazaar that will be held shortly for the benefit of the Library. Many handsome donations havo been made, and it promises to be a greater nuccess than last year. Mrs. Sallle Edwards, 'wife of I)r, G. C. Edwards, of Hookerton, died last night and will be buried near that town this afternoon at 3 o'clock. We could get no further particulars of her death. She Is a sister of Mrs. H. II. Wilson, of Kins ton. We extend sympathy to the be reaved. , Two of our tobacco buyers were on another market the other day and bought a lot of tobacco on a warehouse floor. They fibipped the tobacco to Kinston and sold it again at one of our ware houses. The lot 450 or 500 pounds brought $33 more in Kinston than on the other market. Mr. W. H. Rountree was buried yester day at the cemetery at 5 o'clock. ; A large crowd was present. Probably more tobacco was brought to Kinston today than ever before in one day. There were nearly or quite 300,000 pounds of tobacco brought in. but all ot It could not be sold all could not be gotten on tjhe warehouse floors, pack it as close as could be. The first sale was at the Carolina. The floor was covered with 65.000 pounds of the weed, and many loads had to be putaway in the prize house until Mon day's sale. The next sale was at the Central where : the floor and even the driveway were covered with big piles Jammed together. The Central sold about 85,000 pounds and put away about 30,000 pounds until Monday's sale. At the Eagle was the greatest sale since the house was established. About 80,000 pounds were crowded on the floor and many loads were placed in the prize nonse to await Monday s sale. We go to press too early to know if the sales will block, but the race to finish Is a clone one. The nicest part of it is that, notwith standing the tremendous rush, tobacco is eelling way up yonder, mces are nign and the farmers are pleased. The reason of such big sales is that Kinston warehousemen and buyers are hustlers. We have twentystrong buyers who have orders at good prices for more tobacco than tbey can buy, causing them to bid way up for it. The big prices obtained on the Kinston market cause farmers to bring it in from all the sur rounding country and from long dis tances. Kinston is the best tobacco market in the State. The negroes hare taken entire control 01 tne Jiepubucan organization in boutn Carolina and elected a negro as chairman of theexecutiveeommittee. live negroes and four whites were nominated for presidential electors.
