The largest and most pleasant hay rlde.oftbe season was given by Misses Rosabel Rountree and Lottie Tull to tbe members of tbe Bon Temps clnb and tbir friends yesterday evening and a fraction of this morning. The party left Klnston just a little after 9 o'clock and returned a (ew minute past 12. The drive was three miles out on the road towards J Grirton and then east by the Dunn place and s. then by Tower: Hill borne. The drive was a delightful one, just enough clouds to keep the moon from shining too brightly. At Tower Hill Iced water melons wen cut. Mr. John Bailey kept the party laughing by the hits on the young men and also on himself. Each wagon had Its: solos and quartets to keep the evening bright with muslo.. Three wagons wen nquind to carry the party and there were only, two chap erones. It goes without saying ther ton that the wagon In which no chap- J om preii, ied was tbe wagon which was best filled. j The party comprised Telia Smith with ( Harvey nines, Payne Kilpatrlck with Jq, Hunter, Nannie Goodson with Frank Qolnerly, Marie Weyher with O.' A colored man by the name of 8imon Leathers was found dead by a passerby jut behind the grand stand at the base ball park across the river yesterday af ternoon. It was probably a case ot suicide. ;. -; . Leather had been one of tbe section hands on the A. & N. C. B. B. bnt had not been womng lor over a week. H left a note to Mr. Geo. F. Parrott, a&ent at the A. A N. C. depot, askinghlm to pay hi wage to those whom re owed. The ground near the man' bedy showed sigus of intense suffering and a teriflc struggle. A pint flask and a small bottle, in which there was probably poison, was found nearby. Some of the substance found in the bottle has been sent to the state chemist for analysis. Various rumors have been afloat as to the cause ot the man' death but sul clde seems to be the most plausible one, for the deceased would hardly have bad time to write a note to the station a-rent while he was being murdered.
