We call attention to the advertise ment of J. B. dimming, "Prince of Tuckahoo," in today's issue of The Free Press. It ia original in its com position and eminently characteristic of the man. I lead the ad, it may in terest you and possibly save you money. Mr. B. H. Pittman, of Pennsylvania, has accepted a position in the job of fice of The Free Press and is a thoroughly equipped printer. The Free Press is fully prepared to do ar tistic work of every kind at prices con sistent with the class of work, which is the very, best. The health board will place flairs at all infected houses to designate them. The rumors that had gained currency Sundav and Monday, and which hail created more or less fright among the citizens, vere set at nought by the statement from Superintendent Pridgen and the fear was allayed. The con ditions certainly do not justify any un necessary alarm. A young man by the name of Land, from Pamlico county, was robbed of 9130 last night and accused another young man, named Peter Drainey, of Newbern, who was ouf drinking with him, of having robbed him. A war rant was sworn out by Land this morn ing and served on Urainev who de nied having the money until he arrived at the mayor's office when he restored to Land $100 of the money. Drainey was aroused from sleep early this morning by a policeman and asked if he had anybody's money, and it is said that he replied before hewas fully aroused that he had 9130 of Land's money. After he became awake good he denied this, and stuck to it until taken to the mayor's office, when he gave up $100 as stated above. The warrant was withdrawn, or Land re fused to prosecute. Both parties are young men of good families and are known in Klnston. A bold thief entered the store of F R. Nunn, colored, a merchant on lower Queen street last night and carried off goods and money to the value of over qiw, ineuiiei nrone a gtass in me .front window through which he entered and proceeded ti ritle the money drawer, which be broke to pieces and from which he got some pennies that were always left in the drawer at night. The proprietor hud forgotten to put the combination on the safe, leaving it with the day lock on, and the visitor was quick to take every thing of value including a gold watch, but leaving notes and accounts unmo lested. He also carried off a box con taining 10 or 12 dozen eggs and some Other merchandise, the exact amount of which is not determined yet by Nunn. The boldness of the act can be imag ined when it is known that the window broken into is under the glare of the electric light, in a neighborhood that is pretty thickly settled with people. No clue to the perjetraUr of the robbery has been found as yet hut it is thought that he must have had accomplices. 8TIIABAXE ITKMS. Jan. 19, 1903.
