This will remedy the very bad condition that has heretofore existed after heavy rains by taking from the sidewalks 'water immediately and they will be passible for pedestrians. The bold night hawks were again at work last night, this time effecting an entrance Into Mr. VV. D. llaynor's store in the Miller building. Mr. Kaynor has not missed anything yet, though a good deal of stuff could be taken promiscuously from a stock of goods and not be readily missed. The thief entered through a window in the rear of the store, first breaking out light in a window to Dr. Miller's dining room which was just back of the store, evidently thinking that it was the window to the store. The annual meeting ofthestockhold ers or tne Kinston Cotton Mills was held at the company's office Thursday afternoon, Feb. 5, and declared an eight per ceut. dividend, payable four per cent, on May l, ana four per cent, on Nov. 1, The following directors were elected S. H. Abbott, Dr. H. Tull, D. Oettin ger, J. K. Hood, II. E. Moseley, F. C Dunn, E. It. House, J. W. Black, J. A. McDaniel and J, F. Taylor. Upon the of adjournment the stock holders the newly elected board of directors met and elected otlicers as follow: N. J. House, president; H. II. Ab bott, vice-president; F. U. Dunn, sec retary; and J. F. Taylor, treasurer and manager. This enterprise is one of the strongest ones located in our midst. It represents a capital stock of over a quarter of a million dollars. The business for the past year has been more satisfactory than that of preced ing years, while the outlook for the future is very bright. This progressive outlook is shown ; by the fact that new machinery will be bought and installed at once, in creasing the capacity of the mills to 12,000 spindles. February 6, 1003. Miss Bessie Moore and Mr. Hardy Vause spent Munday at Institute. Mr. Guy Taylor and Miss Sib Tay lor spent Saturday night and Sunday at Mr. Frank White's. Miss lola Sutton, of Greenville, has come to spend a few months with her aunt, Mrs. D. G. Taylor. Mr. George Sutton, who nas been visiting bis sister, Mrs. Ed Hunter, returned today to his home in Kins ton. Mr. Lem Moore, who died at his home Tuesday, was buried this after noon at Mr. Thomas Worthington's place. Rev. Sam Sumrell passed here this morning on his way to Mr. John wig irins, to make his daughter and Mr, Ivey Smith man and wife. Mr. Ben Singleton, who recently moved to this neighborhood, had the misfortune Sunday night to lose his barn and contents by tire. Mr. Sin gleton is a poor man and the loss is keenly felt. Cause of the fire is un known. At her home near Hugo, Mrs. Court ney Heath, wife of Mr. Richard Heath, died on last Saturday morning just before the hour of one. Her disease was that dreadful one, consumption, She, with her husband, had long been a member of Little Creek church, Greene county. She leaves a husband and five children. Her funeral was reached at the home at 9 o'clock unda v morning by Elder E. T. Phil lips. After the funeral her body was conveyed to the John Sullivan bu srround in Greene county, there await the resurrection morn.
