Midyett's for some time, returned her home at Wilmington yesterday to Something to Think Abont BslSltfb Pout. . ; "-, Here Is something for our North Carolina farmers, those who grow or expect to grow bright tobacco and three-fourths of the crop grown in this State Is of this class to think upon . A dispatch published in the Post day or two ago stated that the legisla ture of Wisconsin had passed "with out a word of debate" a bill to pro- molt the manufacture or sale of cigar ettes or ciararette paper in that state. Some people think or affect to think such legislation would hurt or kill the cigarette trust. On the contrary it is simply plavlng into its hands. liut should such legislation prevail in many states it would destroy the value oi three-tourtns or the tobacco grown by our farmers, or certainly re- duce Its value below the profit-making point, because tne use to wni f acturers. whether the trust or the anti trusts trusts, now puts this classof the weed would be greatly curtailed. The trusts of both sorts the original and the "antls,? could then get their grades for smoking purposes at their own rice, and supply their cigarette fao- srles at work nd employ ins? labor elsewhere, In other countries perhaps. and thus enjoy an increasing , monop oly on smoking, cigars and chewing, made from the very low priced to bacco, made low by asslnine legjsl tlon. ' There are thousands and thousands of farmers in North Carolina Interested directly in this very cigarette business. because of the very largely increased demand created for the particular, and most profitable, class of tobacco cultivated and grown by our farmers by this particular character of manu facture. ,i, 8aving,Time. Newa-ObMrvsn . It is said that the Atlantic Coast Line is buying land near Savannah so that a shorter route can be had into that city. There Is so much competl Hon in travel to Florida that the three great railway systems are anxious to save every possible minute and the Coast Line is working towards this end by cutting off the circuitous routes. ' The reduction of a few miles means a much shorter schedule, . and as the minutes count the roads, are trying to provide the quickest run possible.
