The registration books closed last bight with the largest Kins enrollment of Hnston for the city names ever bad in elections. Seven hundred and seventy-eight persons nave registered lor tne muni cipal election, 19 of whom are colored, and of course will not enter the Demo cratic primary, leaving 759 voters who , will determine who is to be ' the next mayor and aldermen of this city. If every white man on the books votes at the primary it will require 380 for a choice for mayor, This is not likely, though for various reasons, and pro bably 360 or 360 voters will nominate the mayor, as it is very likely that that number will be a majority of the votes cast. The registration by wards Is: First Ward: 203 whites and 7 col ored. 4 Second Ward: 286 whites and 8 , colored. - - Third Ward: 273 whites and 4 col . ored. ?i ' As the week drawl to a close and tne ena is near, tne campaign grows warmer and decidedly interesting to . students of the situation. The campaign has been conducted in 4 quiet manner and entirely free from unpleasant features calculated to en gender bitterness of feeling, which is Highly complimentary to the candl dates and their supporters. Complimentary to the Supreme Mystic Ruler and Delegates. Neuse Ruling No. 294 of the Frater nal Mystic Circle gave an entertain ment last night at Canady's hall com fillraentary to the Supreme Mystic luler, Mr. T. H. Duckwitz. and the delegates to the Grand Ruling which met here yesterday. One of the principal features of the entertainment had been kept a great secret and every one expected some' thing new. It revealed itself as a con test of skill in pinning the tail on the donkey. It was very laughable. The prizes were two beautiful water colors, Mrs. It. E. Bland received the first prize, a landscape: Mrs. Laura Brewer, the second, a head. The program was: "Flower Solo," Miss Claypoole, with violin obllgato, Miss Lula Kate Mewborn. Vocal Solo, "The Cat and the Canary," Miss Lillle Parker. Vocal Solo, "Under the Bamboo Tree," Miss Kate Chadwick. Recitation, "Almost Beyond Endur ance," Missfayne Kilpatrick. (En core.) Duet, "Under Southern Skies," Miss Ines Wooten and Mr. Jesse Ball. Cake Walk, Miss Kate Chadwick and Mr. Jesse Ball. (Encore.) Angel's Serenade," Miss Inez Wooten, violin obllgato, Miss Lula Kate Mewborn. quest, Miss Kilpatrick recited "Adam an Eve an' de Appile Tree." which was highly enjoyed by every one. Every number on tbe program was rendered in a most perfect manner, and the visitors expressed themselves as being delighted with the entertain' ment and as having a determination to return home to their own rulings and do like-wise. The lodge is under many obligations to the young ladies and the young gentleman whose kindness made possible to have such a pleasant af fair. Immediately after the completion of the program, Mr. Duckwitz made snort talk about tne order, which . was much appreciated by the members. Then refreshments were served and at a late hour the meeting broke up. For Alderman, First Ward, r .
