Bar Harbor, Me.. July 26. The United States battleship Kearsarge completed her test run across the At lantic this evening, and fulfilled the prediction of the navy department bv covering the distance of almost 3,000 miles in less than ten days. Her aver age speed was miles an hour. Ibis performance crowns a remark able record made by the great battle ship,; Since the Rearsaroe left New York 63 days auro. she has visited Germany, Denmark and England, has steamed 8,200 miles, has been at sea 24 days, and in port 29 days, and during ait wis time mere nas not been single accident to her machinery, not a orean or a stop pi any Kind. Bne is ready for action. :, When she left Portsmouth the Kear sarge carried 1,640 tons of coal. She now has on board 410 tons, consuming 1,230 tons on the voyage, an average 01 ua tons aaiiy. as ner coal carry ing capacity ts nut i.oui tons some coal was taken on deck. The trip of the Kearsarge has demonstrated that a ship of her class can maintain' an average speed of over 13 knots on a long .voyage without injury to her machinery: that her coal carrying capacity it adequate tor a trip of 4,000 miles under full speed; that in time of war ships of her class can cross the ocean and engage an enemy at once; that the Kearsarge - ia one of the most perfect ships in the world, and fully equal to any emerirency. The Kearsarge arrived at Bar. Har bor at 6:42 p. m. rand dropped anchor in the upper harbor at 8:13. All day the shore path had been thronged with people anxiously watching the eastern horizon for the first glimpse of the famous ' ship, but It was not -until 5 o'clock that her Immense hull appeared out of . the mist in the east Coming at full speed, the ship entered the har bor, and passed the other ships of the squadron at anchor, then proceeding to the upper harbor, where the battleship Illinois, with - Admiral Barker " on board was anchored. ,v Mme.
