Miss Georgia Oxley stopped over in Kins ton to visit awhile on her return to her home at Newborn from Seven Springs. Miss Lydia Yates, of Wilmington, who has visiting the Misses Kilpatrick here for several days, returned home last night. Mrs. Bowden and daughter, Miss Huldah, after a visit to Mrs. John Brown for a few days, left this morn ing for Seven Sp.'ings. Sutton, a young farmer of the Buckles berry section of this county raised the cotton and has between 30 and 40 acres, which he saya will average nearly a bale to the acre. He was well pleased with the price obtained and said that he had another bale at home, which he was sorry that Jm did not bring today. KInston was not the first to receive new cotton this year but the price paid for the "first bale" here today is some what in excess of the price of the other nearby markets for their first bale. J. Amos Heath, a white man living on the south side of the river, in this ' county, was committed to jail yester day in default of bond, for taking a Coat from Mr. W. H. Davenport. The circumstances are a little un usual and appear to be as follows: Heath went to Mr. Davenport to buy two goats from him on credit and was t refused by s Mr. Davenport, who told Heath that he could not get the goats until he had paid for them. Heath did get the goats and killed one of them od kept the other in a pen. Davenport found out thfet Heath had taken the goats and on Heath's being tola Dy a Mr. UavU that Mr. Daven port aia know of It he went to him Sunday and Daid ,20 cents, which Mr. Davenport accepted. . V ". The magistrate holding that the act constituting larceny had been com pleted when Heath carried th mat way and that what happened after did not change the statue of the case, sent the case up.
