This morning In the Methodist church the ladles of Kinston met the pastor of the various city churches in a joint thanksgiving service for the temper a nee victory won yesterday. The ladies have been holding daily prayer ser vices throughout the campaign. ' Yesterday afternoon about 5 o'clock Mr. F. W. Woodard, a young man in the Ulnes' logging camp, was fatally injured by the fall of a tree which he waa cutting; The tree fell completely crushing his skull on the left side. Dr R. A. Whitaker was summoned but the Injury -was of too serious a nature to be remedied, and at nine o'clock this morning Mr. Woodard died. The fatal accident occurred on the prera lses of Mr. W. L. Kennedy near Fall ing Creek, the young man's home. Mr. R. B. Blansett, who lives within a few miles of Kinston, sold a load of tobacco at the Central warehouse to day for. which he received a check for 06.73. Within a few minutes after he left the warehouse office the check was stolen from his overcoat pocket where be had placed it The check was No. 8,109 made payable to bearer by the Central warehouse. Both banks and as many merchants as possible have been notiied to stop payment, in the hope that in this way the thief may be caught and the property restored. Mr. W. n. Lasslter, of Greene county, suffered a stroke of paralysis on the streets yesterday and has not spoken siaoe. He was taken to the doctor, and on being Identified was taken to Mrs. Moore's boarding house on Heritage street, where he is now J The dootor entertains no hope for his recovery.; The paralysis is on the left side and la severe. Dixon, of Hookerton, took the cars here last night for Golds boro and returned this morning. Mrs. J. E. Hadley, of Raleigh, who has been visiting Mrs. Thomas Har vey, returned home this morning. Mrs. Ernest Pittman and little daugh ter, Kathleen, of Newbern, are visit ing Mr. A. F. Pittman, of this city. Messrs. C. W. Carter and John W. Carlton, tobacconists of LaGrange, spent a few hours in the city yesterday afternoon. Messrs. N. J. Rouse, K. R. Tunstall and S. H. Bright went to Greenville this morning to attend the State Chris tian convention. Miss ISaura Wooten and Rev. D. H. Petree, of LaG range, spent last night In the city and went to Greenville this morning to attend the Christian con vention. Hoyt's Comedy Company Gave a refreshing vaudeville enter tainment at Loftln's opera house last evening to a medium sized house, which enjoyed it very much. The spe cial features are the young Bullocks, who hive been here before, and their work is very clever. The dialogue between Miss Bullock and the leading comedian was very amusing and some olever hits were made by them. The company went to Newbern this morning and will play there tonight.
