I M'CLEARY INDICTED. J. L. Pettus, a Norfolk Southern Railroad detective, was here Tues day evening to appear before the grand jury in indictment of J. H. AK'Cleury, wanted for car-breaking here. The man indicted is a fugitive. McCleary, who is colored, was cap tured in a box ear here several months ago. He had entered the car while the train to which it was at tached was in motion. McCleary had recently been released from the Vir ginia penitentiary, sentenced to a month's time on the roads for va grancy, after which he was to be tried for breaking into the car, he scaped when he had barely com menced the sentence. Davis, a former, sot out to bring his family to the bedside of his dying brother Tuesday afternoon. the mule that was to haul the wife and children to the stricken relative's ome was killed by lightning. Davis had been in attendance upon the-bedside of B. F. Davis at the bit ter's home, on tha Central Highway. When the iitorm had abated Davis went for the animal to continue his journey, ana discovered that a bolt of lightning had killed it. B. F. Davis died shortly afterwards. MORE TROUBLE FOR BOY AUTO THIEVES Three Bethel youtha named Moore, Gibson and Blount, who recently stole an automobile from the garage of the uncle of the last-named, M. O. Blount, and were arrested in Ala bama, are now being held in Georgia for forgery, which the trio are alleg ed to have committed during their "scorching" trip from this section to the Gulf States. M. O. Blount has gone for his machine, which was in the possession of the men when they were apprehended. It is uncertain if Moore, Cih.son and Blount -will be brought buck to North Carolina on the larceny chanre before thev have been tried for forgery in Georgia. LEGISLATORS OF PITT PUNCH EACH OTHER A report reaches hore today of a fistic encounter between Senator W. F. Evan. and Representative D. M. Clark, Pitt county's representatives in the Legislature, ut Greenville. The two hid not been any too friendly since the last campaign, when polit ical difference arose between them. The present campaign brought on a renewal of the trouble, and newspa per articles by Evans and Clark r.dded to the difficulty. The light was in front of a business pluce in the Pitt county seat.
