INDICT LEWD WOMEN
NEW SCHOOL HOUSE
FOR PINK HILL.
The board of education has ordered
a new uchool building to be erected
at Pink Hill. The present building,
outgrown, and site will be sold. A
new Kite has been secured, and an
adequate building, of modern design
and furnishings, will in future house
the Pink Hill school. It will prob
ably contain four rooms.
AN EFFICIENT ELECTRIC LIGHT
An electric lamp of the newest type
has been placed on u pole in front of
the city hall for demonstration. The
lamp, of 250 candle-power, and nitro-gen-ftlled,
gives almost as much light
as the old style 600 candle-power arc
on street corners. The light and the
ornamental bracket accompanying it
are the loan of the mnnufuctui-xi-K.
The grand jury Thursday failed to
find true bills against seven proprie
tresses of alleged bawdy houses on
Shine and South streets. Solicitor
Shaw asked for indictments for the
seven, whose names he sent to the
grand jury.
Most of the women, anticipating ar
rest, had fled the city. Indictments
Wre not asked fur inmates of trip
resorts other than "landladies."
It is not known if the court will
seek other action against the women,
but the general lielief is thnt n pros
ecution will be attempted along other
