WIS PUT III JH
Jim," an Onslow county bear, rode
proudly into Kinston in an automo
bile Saturday. Tcday Jim is in jail
Hardy fJouvhtrty of Richlands. about
forty miles from here, brought the
bear here with him. Jim sat on the
rear seat, which he shared ' with a
negro. The pair were on the best
of terms, and Bruin seeminclv took
in much interest in the things he saw J
on the streets as cHd the rural black,
who was his companion. The bear
is a fat, black cub, about eight
months old. He is gentle as a kitten.
although the jailers dog won't ad
mit it, and it was no fault of Jim's
that, when his owner was required to
be away three days lonjrer ar.d did
not want to take the bear with him,
the cub had to go to jail. James had
been very well behaved on the entire
trip from Richlands here, and his
owner looked in vain for a olnce to I
put him in a livery stable or else
where. He finally applied to the no-
lice for lodging for his net, and was
accommodated.

EVANGELISTIC MEETING
IN CHRISTIAN CHURCH
There were two good services in
the Gordon Street Christian church
yesterday.
To splendid audience at the morn
1113 service me pastor spoke upon
"Can I Hold Out?" He dwelt eanec

.nvery one who obeys God receives
and showed how at the Fountain of
Life, the Ever Present Helper and
Hie hunetifler is the great Hource
of strength to the Christian. He al
ca cmphuiircd tho church as un awn
Xi of strength, declaring thut no man
could" afford to'do without the fellow
fthjp, the meetings and the work of
the church. There was. application
for membership. .
At night every available seat was
taken. The song service under the
direction of Mr. Arthur Wake was
aang two solos, "The Lost Chord

IMMIGRATION EFFORTS
MISPLACED
Mr. Charles H. Foy. a well known
Kinstonian, who ha sjust returned
from Colorado, where he snent
couple of months, believes the idea
of the railroads of this section to in
crease the farming population bv in
ducing farmers of the Middle West to
locate here is wrong. While our ad
vantages are superior, he thinks the
average farmer of Indiana and Ohio
is better equipped and has a more
'comfortable home than the average
planter of eastern Cajolina, .and his
tmna is 01 sucn a quality that with
nit own energy and Intensive toeth

ue Mississippi, that we ahoubi look

uai ue land is not nearly so desir.
..able there, while severe climatic con
ditiona make a profitable crop always
mn uncertainty. The dry farming of
jnoraao and thct region is a
fumble, and Mr. Foy believes many
w we rarmera could be induced to
orae here. They are of just as de
alrable a class, he says as the IndU
na and Ohio agriculturist. ;
