Three marriage license were Issued by the Register of Deeds Tuesday, to whites: Hlney J. Myers, 34, and Ma bel Taylor, 2ft, both of Lenoir county; John L. Eason. Jr., 21, and Gatsey Smith, 17, both of Wayne county. Colored: Willie Blount, 19, and Alice Shepard, 17, both of Kinston. PREPARE FOR BANQUET OF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The entertainment committee of the Chamber of Commerce met at 10 o'clock this morning in the office of C. Oettinger, the chairman, to ar m nA fnr th annual meeting and banquet of the chamber on the even ing of October 21. FORMER RESIDENT LOCATES HERE. R. II. Parsons, who several years go went from Kinston to San Die go. Cal., has returned here to locate Mr. Parsons has found temporary business quarters, and will bring his familv here from Maryland, where they are visiting, shortly. GREENE DEMOCRATS TO HAVE SHORT CAMPAIGN. The Greene County Democratic Ex ecutive Committee has set October 23 as the opening day for the campaign there. The campaign wilfend on the 31st. The Republicans have named only candidates for the board of coun ty commissioners and W. O. Dixon of Hookerton is the nominee for repre sentative. PRAYER MEETING CALLED OFF. Pastor C. W. Blanchard of the First Baptist church, states that there will be no prayer meeting this even ing by that congregation, because of the use of the Primitive Baptist churth, where the First Baptists are .now meeting, by the Primitive Bap tist members. Pastor Blanchard asks his congregation to worship with the Primitive Baptists. JUDGE ALLEN IN SOUTHPORT. Judge 0. H. Allen of Kinston is presiding over Brunswick County Su perior Court at Southport. He has recommended that a new courthouse be built in Southport, and in his charge made other recommendations -that tae UKcrt whisky traffic in Brunswick be stamped out and better schools b provided. The docket which he i trying is full, but in the main, uninteresting. SERVICES IN RURAL CHURCHES ' On Sunday, the 25th, there will be regular services conducted by the pastor of the circuit in the Free Will Baptist churches at Woodington and Smith's New Home, at 11 and 4 o' clock, "respectively. The Eastern Con ference of the, Free Will Baptist church will' convene at Friendship church,' in Jones county, near Tren tqn, Thursday, October 22, to be n session four days. HOM ECOM I N G M ARR ED. Clarissa Johnson, who is a mule, Respite his uiiusuul name, returned rt Kinston on a midnight train Tues day night from Goldsboro, and got arrested on the way. Johnson went to Goldsboro to find employment. Failing, he decided to return to his home here, and being without means to pay his fare tried to beat his way on a passenger train. The conductor turned him over to the police here. ( IIICUS TOMORROW. The Holimson's Famous Shows will ahow here tomorrow at afternoon and night performances. The shows tra vel with nearly twenty-five cars, and probably cany more equipment than did the 101 Ranch show here last week. The tonatfeo market will be BUHH'rnK'(l for the day and numbers of farmers will come from the sur rounding country to attend the circus. Excursions will bo operated to Kin aton from a number of points. "UNCLE JOHN" DAWSON BREAKS A RECORD. County Treasurer John Dawson made a new record at the opening meeting of the Democratic campaign In' Southwest township Tuesday. Mr. Dawson is the dean of the nominees, and easily on of the most popular of them. The splendid old candidate apokc for nearly five minutes, it is said, although he has never been known before to make a political ad dress of more than 2H minutes' du ration. He received every hit of the attention that his personality and plain statements deserved, too, SILK MILL SUSPENDS. Aa predicted on Monday, the W. H, Ashe ley Company's silk mill in north- east Kinston, has suspended opera tions because of the scarcity of labor. All the colored labor of the kind em ployed in the silk mill has been at tracted to the tobacco factories by the superior wutres paid in those plants. Around a hundred negroes were employed in the mill. It is ex peeled" that the plant will not resume before January 1. A DISAPPOINTED FAN. No person in Kinston possibly felt so keenly the loss to the Philadelphia Americans of the 'world championship series as did Edward B. Toppin, a law student of 108 Vernon avenue. Topp'n is a nephew to the treasurer of the Athletics, and around Philadel phia was the intimate friend of Ba ker, Mclnnis and others of the late champions. Mr. Toppin, a native of Newark, has been here in the employ of a New Jersey corporation, and is now reading law with a view to qual ifying for the bar in this State. He will leave Friday for Lancaster, Pa., to spend a few weeks. WILLIAMS IN POLICE COURT. When the police went to the South Queen street grocery of his father Tuesday, to arrest William Williams for being drunk and disorderly, they arrested also the elder Williams and Durwood Williams, another son. They found around five gallons of whisky in the store. Durwood Williams ac cused the officers of being "smart," cursed them, and denied their author ity to seize the intoxicants, though they had a search warrant. The three were tried in police court Tuesday night and Daniel Williams, the fath er, bound over to Superior Court, Wil liam Williams sentenced to sixty days on the roads and Durwood Williams fined. The elder Williams declared the whisky was left in the place by customers. A negro testified that he had bought whisky in the place. The Williams' are well known.
