OVER 9.000 BALES COTTON GINNED IN LENOIR COUNTY The tabulation of separate return from ginners for the December 1 re port to the bureau of the census shows there were 9,060 bales of cotton counting round as half bales, ginned in Lenoir county from the crop of 1914 prior to that date, as compared with 7,538 bales in 1913 to December 1. TWO NEW TEACHERS FOR CITY SCHOOLS. Superintendent Barron Caldwell wa Thursday night authorized by the trustees of the city schools to employ two more teachers. The names of the teachers who will augment the facul ty have not been announced. When they are employed there will be twenty-nine classes, with an average of about forty pupils to the room. UNIVERSITY GLEE CLUB HERE SATURDAY NIGHT The Glee Club of the University of North Carolina, the most talented the university has ever sent out, twenty eight strong, will give a concert in Loftin's Opera House Saturday night. Two young Kinstonians, Fletcher Rosemond and Charles Mangum, arc members. The club presents a varied program of solos, duets, trios, quar tets, sextettes and full choruses, and Instrumental numbers. COMPILING HEAVY DOCKET FOR COURT. Clerk J. T. Heath is busy preparing the docket for next week's term of I Superior Court. The criminal docket Is heavy, but very few cases are of more than ordinary interest The on ly murder case is that against An- nie McGee, colored, who killed her consort in a house on North street some months ago. The woman is now out on a small bond. She is expected to get a small sentence. AGED MAN ATTACKED BY DOGS NEAR WHEAT SWAM!' Lewis Grant, aged seventy-seven years, was here today with a hand badly lacerated by a dog's fangs. The! old man, who is very feeble, started into a farm yard near Wheat Swamp before day, and was attacked by a pack of watchdogs. One of the ca nines seised his left hand and bit the I flesh almost entirely off the back from the wrist to the knuckles. DEATH OF FORMER KINSTONIAN IS REPORTED FROM MEMPHIS ' Intelligence of the death in Mem phis, Term., of Levi Wooten Dawson, a former well-known man of this county, on Wednesday night, was re-1 ceived here today. Mr. Dawson ex pired suddenly at 12 o'clock, Novem ber 25, in his home, at 163 Evergreen street The cause of death was heart failure. Mr. Dawson was the husband of I Sirs- Prlscilla L. Dawson and the I father of Leslie Dcrwood Dawson. Ja cob Dawson, Mrs. Robert Hendrix and Mrs. Hugh Moore of Memphis; It E. Dawson of Denver, Col., and Mrs. T. J. Roberta of Norfolk, Va. The funeral was held Thursday af ternoon, November 26, at 4 :30 o'clock, in Memphis. FATHER OF LOCAL MAN DIES IN CARTERET COUNTY. Mr. Orin Weeks and family left this morning for Pelletier, Carteret county, to attend the funeral of Mr. Weeks' father, Mr. Daniel S. Weeks, who died there Thursday. Mr. Dan iel Weeks was eighty-four years of age, and one of the best known and most esteemed citizens of Pelletier. His death was unexpected, although ha had been ill for a short time. Be sides Mr. Orin Weeks, the following children Survive him: Micajah Weeks of New Bern, George E. Weeks, cash ier of a bank at Maysville; Carl Weeks of RicUands; J. Weeks of Savannah, Gsuj D. S.: Weeks of Hu bert, N. C; Miss Macey Weeks of Richland; Mrs. R. W. Sabiston of New York; Mrs. Charles lUrdesty of Raleigh, and Mrs. William Truckner of Pelletier. The funeral was con ducted today. :-vt'-: Children Orr FCX FLETCHER'S CAD.tORIA SHERIFF TAYLOR GOES TO "BLUE GRASS" COUNTRY Will Bring Hark Gabriel Tool, Want ed on Charge of Illicit Manufac ture of Liquor Skipped His Bond, But Finally Caught. Shcrilf Taylor left this morning for Lexington, Ky., to brinp to Kin hton Gabriel Pool, an elderly white man, who i.s wanted in this county for operating an illicit Ktill near Kelly's Mill. The shcrilf was informed by a telegram Thursday night that Tool would not ti'ht extradition. Gulniil Tool is supposed to have been the owner of a still whvh was raided by sheriff's officers last spring. The apparatus was destroyed, but the operator was not captured. The big kettle, however, bore the name of a firm of tinners who, upon being ques tioned, declared Tool had told them he was going to use it for curing to bacco. He was arrested, and gave bond in the sum of $200. After giv ing bond ho walked out of the Court house and left the State. INFANT SMOTIIKRED IN BED WITH PARENTS The four-months'-old infant daugh ter of Henry Tuinage, a mill operat ive, and wife, was found smothered to death in the bed with her parents early this morning. Dr. Ira M. Hardy was called and informed the coroner that the death was purely ac cidental, there being evidences that the baby had lain with something over her face which obstructed her breath ing. The child was remarkably pret ty and well-nourished for such a ten der age. The remains were taken to Ayden for interment.
