The "Commodores" and Hifrh School basketball teams will play in the Central Warehouse Thursday evening, the first game of the local season. Three quintets now com prise the league. A championship series will be pulled off. Mr. A. C. Howard Dies in Weldon. Mrs. A. C. Howard, for many years a resident of this city, died in Wel don, where she was visiting, this morning at 1 o'clock. The cause of her death has not been ascertained here. She was a sister of Mrs. Mary C. Wooten and Miss Sue Cobb of this city, and the mother of a number of children. The funeral will be held in Washington, N. C, Thursday at 2 p. m. A; well-known physician relates the following: A man came to his of fice Monday nitfht from the country, and remarking upon the cold, declar ed that forty years ago he had his feet frostbitten. "Some fellow told me to soak my feet in boiling water with cayenne pepper in it," he said. "I didn't have any better sense than to follow, his advice, and do you know, my feet got cold today for the first time in forty years." t'hritttians' Prayer Meeting. The Gordon Street Christian con gregation will hold their regular prayer meeting service this evening, preceding the address by Dr. Sam Small in that church. It will be held in the Sunday school auditorium from 7:15 to 7:55 o'clock. If the Sunday school auditorium is needed for the Crowd before 8 o'clock, the prayer tneeting will be adjourned a little earlier. Those of other churches whose prayer meetings have been called off for tonight are cordially invited to worship with the Gordon Street congregation and remain in the building to hear Mr. Small.
