Dupree, asked for a trial by jury. The case was set for Friday at 3 p. m. Train Derailed. A passenger train on the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad due to arrive here at 7:40 came in at about 9 o'clock Wednesday night, traffic having been held up by the derailment of two cars of a freight train this side of Weldon. Biahop of Laymen May Come. John G. Bragraw, Jr., called by Rev. John H. Griffith "the most pop ular layman" in the East Carolina Diocese, is expected to preach in St, Mary' Episcopal church Sunday. Mr. Bragaw is frequently referred to by clergymen as "bishop of tiie lai ty." He is a member of St. Peter's parish, Washington. Universaliat Lenten Services. A jood congregation heard Rev. J. L. Everton'a splendid sermon on "The Glory of the Second Death" at Ithe Universalist church at McLewean and Lenoir streets Wednesday night. The subject of Mr. Everton'a discourse tonight will 'be fully as interesting, according to Pastor Bodell. He will preach on "The Devil How We Came by Him," "One can scarcely afford to miss hearing this discourse," aays Mr. Bodell. The service will begin at 7:45 p. m. Realty Transfers. Wooten, lot on Bright street, (960 aggregate CITY SCHOOLS MAY END YEAR ON TWENTY-iEIGHTH It is possible, Superintendent of Schools Barron Caldwell stated this afternoon, that the city schools will close at the end of the eighth month, the last day of which is April 28. Lack of funds, it is understood, may cause the term to he shortened from nine to eight mortths. Mr. Caldwell would not saythat it was probable that the term would end on the 28th. The matter will be determined short ly, he said. MILLINERY OPENING AT THE STEPHENSON STORE Hundreds of women flocked ito the J. M. Stephenson store Wednesday, the occasioa being the Easter milli nery opening at that establishment. Dr. W. C. Knox, head of the business, had prepared an exhibit unequalled before in the store. The designs shown were numerous, and invariably handsome. Dr. Knox haajbeen back only a short itime from" the North, where he selected new stock for the opening.
