(Continued from page 1) Live Up to Professions, Pleads. The burden of his discourses " so far has been a plea that church members consciously "locate" them selves and Steadfastly live up to the! own professions. Mr. Bridgers doe? not mince matters in arraigning un faithful church members as traitors to the cause of Christ. He declare? that neither church membership not ceremonial of any kind can save, but only the blood of Christ applied by the Holy Spirit to each individua' soul. During the past week it ha; been his effort to impress on ehurcl members the thought that the cause of the realized loss of power on the part of the church itoday is the fact that it is cumbered with so many un faithful members, members who hav no religion; some of whom have nev er had any. "Baptism of Holy Spirit" This week the evangelist will take as his general theme the baptism of the Holy Spirit. His addresses both at the 10 o'clock morning service and the one at 8 in the evening will be a discussion of this general theme. The morning services are well at tended and his hearers find them very helpful. Special prayer services are held separately by the men. women people of the church each a ine cnurcn as a prepara tion for the regular evening service PASTOR SMITH WANTS TO KNOW IF LIQUOR IS USED By Candidates In Campaign la Len oir Declares That Such Methods are Shameful and Should Not Be Tolerated by Good People Velvet Ribbons In his sermon upon "The Church Member That Didn't Stand the Test," Pastor Barnard P. Smith, in the Gor don Street Christian church, last night made some pertinent remarks in regard to u of whisky in elec tions: "In spite of the fact that this is claimed to be a prohibition county in a prohibition state, it is said 'You can't be elected in Lenoir coun ty unless you use whisky in your campaign, if that is true, it is a slander we should resent. Whether this condition is true or not, many candidates who are otherwise good men and members of the church are failing to stand the test, but through fear of defeat, yield to the emplation anu using wnisky in their campaign The test will soon come to the can didates now in the field. Will they stand or fall? As for me, I will not support any man whatever his pro fessions of temperance if I know that he uses whisky in his campaign or allows ft to be used. As church members you will not stand the test if you support such a candidate." I All Widths From 1 to 40 A 1 Quality The One Price Cass Store A. J. Hundreds of troops flocked to a street carnival. Some clashed with negroes. One or more blacks were knocked out with "pop" bottles. Then, while the militiamen gasped from surprise, two "cops'' took an infantryman into tow. Two minutes later there started a parade more spectacular than that which thf President witnessed. The police there met the soldiers "half way,' and without any argument, it is said turned the man over to them. The disorder was all that was noted. The police said there was but one intoxicated soldier in Charlotte. A hundred militia cavalrymen aided he police in keeping the streets open They took from the civilian officers the task of clearing a way through 75,000 people for the President and his party.
