Kinston Lodge No. 66, Knights of

Death Mrs. Nicholson's Father.
, Mr. W. J. Nicholson has returned
from Louisburg, where his father-in-law,
Mr. Joseph J. Person, died Mon
day following a stroke of paralysis
on Sunday, from which he did not
recover consciousness. The funeral
was held Tuesday. Mr. Person was
a lifelong resident of Louisburgr,
well-known and liked there, and wal
64 years of age.
Paving Crossing.
The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad is
paving the crossing before the pas
senger station on East Gordon street
with Sbrick and concrete. The city al
lowed the use of planks for tho pav
ing, but the company preferred to put
down a permanent and durable pave
ment and be done with it The cost
will exceed f 500. '

William Lawrence Dead.
William W. Lawrence, a well
known colored barber, died at his
home on North street Wednesday af
ternoon following illness of some du
ration. Lawrence had been In poor
health for a long time. He was a
partner in Gordon street barber
shop business. Lawrence was sixty
four years of age; be was a favorite
servant of the late Noah Biggs, the
Halifax county philanthropist in
years gone by. He , was genuinely
popular with many white persons.
The funeral is to be held this afternoon.
