Concord i entitled to the sympathy of fhe balance of the State for having become involved in a Chicago scandal. ' 1 Hurrah for Dallas .Q&unty, Texas! She has joined the Tan- White Ribboners and proclaimed by a substantial ma jority old John I'.arleycorn to be an outlaw. The action of Premier Kerensky of Kussia in supplant ing General Kornllcff, commander-in-chief of the army, ia a devolpmert which was 'riot unexpected by those who have kept up with the situation and who have seen the spirit of jealoi's .rivalry springing up 'between military and civil authorities In tile 'reorganization of Russia. From all indications Premier Kerensky is is the man of the hour. Certainly he it is that has .aved the situation up to the present time. It would appear from all the in formation obtainable in regard to Russian affairs that the brilliant young leader should be given a free reign unhampered by petty jealousies of rivals or malcontents. for the part they played in making the first Liberty Loan i-ssue so successful, and claims to put a proper valuation on an advertising campaign, he point.? out that it will be necessary for the Government to buy space in every news paper in the country. In this connection he says If the Government could, like other advertisers, select the medi ums, the problem would be Bimplified, but that every paper mu.it have its share Without discrimination or fa vor. The Free Pre?s does not believe that the Govern-' ment is obligated to buy space except cn a purely com-' VV' ff ''i- merelal basis, but it does believe that it will he a paying ' df, ' V Investment to utilize paid space in every newspaper.! The national advertisers, referred to by Mr. McAdoo se-! lect the mediums for their national campaigns with the largest general circulation covering certain territories.' CONSTIPATION IS A PENALTY OF AGE Nothing U to auential to health in advancing aga free dom and normal activity of the bowels. It make one feel younger and freiher, and fore stall cold, pilct, fever, and pther dependent ills. Cathartics and purgatives are violent and drastic in action and should be avoided. A mild, ef fective laxative, recommended by physicians and thousands who have used it, is far preferable. This is the combination of simple laxative herbs with pepsin sold by druggists under the name of Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin. It costs only fifty cents a bottle; a trial bottle, free of charge, can be obtained by writing to Dr. W. B. Caldwell, 4S6 Washington St., Monticello, Illinois. TRAINS LEATE KINSTON East Boun to popu The aim f the Government's campaign will he larize the issue nnd to enlighten the people as to the' necessity of floating the bonds and of their participation 1 in the purchase of the issue. The paper which i est the great mass of rural people the county paper is unquestionably the medium which will bring larger returns, so far as p( pulari.ing the issue and li tn:ut ing the bonds to the greatest number of individual is concerned. City Investors, who may be informed by l!i larger papers of the country, will buy more from a stand point of investment returns; on the other hand rural buyers will do from a more patriotic standpoint. The Ftee P-es believes that the Government should provide for a paid advertising campaign. The purchase of display space in the newspaper will not In any way affect the assistance that the press will render through its editorial end news columns. The service through those columns will be a patriotic one without desire for compensation. 11:21 p. m. "Night Express," Pull man Sleeping Cars New Bern to Norfolk. "The Southern Serves the South" WILL EMPHASIZE PATRIOTISM; One cf the features of the forthcoming convention of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, to be held in Kinston October !) to 12, will be the decoration of Kins ton's business houses, if the plans of the local committee work out successfully. The merchants of the town, The Free Press is informed, are to be requested to decorate their buildings in the National' colors. The celebrant! will not lose fight of the Confederate soldiers, in whose honor they meet and in the memory of whom they are organized, hut it is propped to make the gathering this year one of particular patriotic emphasis. Recalling the valiant !eeds of 'til the Daughters of the Confederacy hope to be able to engender n deeper spirit of patriotism and a greater determination cn the part of the present generation to emulate the examples of their forefathers In courageously answering the call of the country in the present conflict. The Free Press is informed that fuch interest through out, the State is 'being manifested in the meeting, and it feels that Kinrton will have nn opportunity peculiarly timely and appropriate. Kinston's citizens will take ad vantage of the opportunity given them to manifest its hospitality and sustain its good reputation in that regard. KINSTON IS PREPARED. The Kinsto'i Tobacco Ikard of Trade has decided to keep the markt t open without any interruption whatso ever. It was thought at one time last week, when the sales were so heavy and the buyers were finding diffi culty in 'handling their purchases, that it might be wise to close the market for two rr three day.i. Very naturally such action wouM have had to be genei.il throughout the di.slrict and there was no disposition on the part of some of the neighboring markets to close. In fact, some of hem seem to want to make capital out cf the situation. Let the fari (i- not get the idea that Kinston is not as well prepared as any other market in Eastern Cnro !in:l to take care cf the tobacco. It was only out rf eon sidcratior. for the f.i mers, to insure them ths? best pos sible prices throughout the season, that there was any talk, :t all, of chring the market in Kinston. As a mat ter of fart, there has been no indication of lower prices, but those who looked ahead realized that, the law of sup ply and demand would govern, and if the unprecedented large break:-, continued daily, the probability was that the prices would be affected. They were not looking at the matter from the viewpoint of the Kinston market, but for the entire Eastern Carolina belt. The intelligent farmers can care for themselves. The Free Press feels sure that they will not yield to any un derhand attempts n the part of competing markets to draw business awav from Kinston. GiiA.M) EXCURSION FARES FROM GOLDSBORO, N. C. If you could only spend a week visiting the hospitals here, see the great need for dressings and bandages of all kinds, the lack of suf ficient hospital linen, hospital gar ments, etc., you would think no sac rifice too great for you to make t'i further this work.
