Negro Released.
Russell Marshall, a negro arrest
ed for robbing a Greene County
colored farmer of S 435.57. was re
leased at Greenville Thursdav after
a preliminary hearing. There was
not sufficient evidence to hold him.
A second negro accused escaped.
For a time it was thought he came
here. Alex. Hunt, the farmer rob-
bel, now is suspected by his land
lord to have faked the loss of the
money in order to "do him" out of
a share of the proceeds of Hunt's
crop.

No Colored School Booth.
Prof. K. R. Curtis of the educa

It was impossible to provide a booth
that it had been hoped to furnish for
the purpose.

An "old citizen' 'of Kinston, a nat
ive or uermany, would honor the
Kaiser in preference to the Presi
dent. Thursday afternoon he ex
pressed himself as being most anx
ious to tender, his last honor and re
spect bo Emperor Vilhelm before
aim in preierence to navinir a simi
lar tribute of regard and admiration
to the President of the United
States! He claims the irreatest hon

man can tender a fellowmnn is to
attend his funeral sincerely mourn
for him and place a wreath of flow
ers upon his grave. Such a token of
friendship and admiration he would
be pleased to extend to Kaiser Will-
Inm today, tomorrow, the next dav
or at any time shortly. But he
would withhold such a token of re
gard and friendship from President
Wilson for the next 25 years long
er. He would like to drink a toast
to the Kaiser's memory: "May he
rest in peace." And a toast to the
President: "May he live long in
health, happiness and contentment."
The foregoing is almost entirely in
the old citizen's own language, sup
erfluous words and (.11. Modesty
would not per.rn.it him to have his
name printed, although that makes
little difference hundreds who read
this will know who the old citizen is.
The Free Press wishes to add that
there is no finer character among the
old citizens. His fellow citizens, old
and young, love him well.
