Eller Declare! fit Censectie With Aueghaaey By, Nomine Waits :- Progress. '7,:;;-v. Winston Jonrnal.?i kV6"; i Mr.' A. H, Eller, who has Just re turned from a trip to El kin, stated to a reporter yesterday that work on the El kin & Alleghanoy Railway, be ing constructed at present' from Elkln to Sparta, Is progressing nicely. "They are making dirt fly," said Mr. Eller. Mr. Eller is a director of the company constructing the road and was driven over the course where work has progressed thus far. Big Force Working. A force of 80 or more convicts with full equipment of mules, wagons, etc., is at present engaged in grading the line from State Road village eight miles from Elkln to the latter place. This work will be completed before the end of the year. In fact the grad ln will very nearly have reached the foot of the Blue Ridge, 10 or 12 miles from Elkln by January 1st Another year's work on the line will place the terminus , well in the heart of the mountains, making ac. cessible for the first time the vast area of the fine timber land. l is pro bable that this much o fthe road will be. put in operation before the line Is finished to Sparta, in Alleghany county. This line will be 27 miles long. Through Yadkin, Too. It is the purpose of the company after the line is finished to Sparta, to extend it this way through Yad kin county, which at present has no railroad, to Winston-Salem ,thus not only making tributary to this city that section around Elkln and be yond the Blue Ridge, but will also bring nearer Yadkin county wihch is rich in resources. The Elkln & Alleghany Railroad is in part, a state enterprise, the state furnishing convicts for construction work and acceptng pay in stock in the road. The Journal reporter yes terday asked Mr. Eller what would be the attitude of Governor Kitchln in regard to this enterprise. "Important" Says Kitchln. Mr. Eller said he had heard Mr. Kitchln remark that he was not thor oughly familiar with it, but that from what he knew of it, it was one of the most important enterprises in the state and that he thought it should receive all the encouragement possi ble. Continuing, Mr. Eller, who is a close political friend of Mr. Kitchln, said: "Mr. Kitchln will be found the friend of every legitimate enterprise in the state and will do all in his power to encourage and promote the development of the resources of the state. He doe's his own thinking and I would not, of course, appear to com mit him to any policy In regard to anything, but his short speech of ac ceptance of the nomination at the hands of the convention at Charlotte was sufficient to convince one of his attitude In regard to the development of the state in Its various lines of Industry." New York Evening Post ; What wfil become of Mr. Roosevelt "nice young men r If Mr. Bryan Is elected! This problem, is roally giving serious concern to the pleasant, and notably tha dlnner.glving, aliens so journing temporarily "in our midst," It seems an old sort of thtnx toi'werry about, but Washington U an odd sort of place, unlike other cities In many of its aspects, and its residents, both permanent and flitting, have anxieties and responsibilities unknown to urban dwellers where the social population Is less transient and changing than it is here. - .. Hosteses aver that a shortage exist in Washington of presentable yoiing men who can be called upon at short notice to fill vacancies at a dinner ta ble. In the face of an eager demand Mr. Rosevelt has done much toward creating an available and Visible sup ply. Diplomatic and official society has taken most kindly to Mr Roosevelt's lmportantton8 They are comonly spok en of as the president's "nice young men," The possibility of their de parture for other . fields of activity outside of Washington, and becoming actual, though obscure, workers in the vineyard, is viewed with alarm. Toward the end of the winter ap prehension was expressed at many dinner tables lest Mr. ' Bryan come to Washington, bringing with him in subordinate capacities youths from the com and hog raising states who might be addicted to the prudent us age of mashing their peas. Over the Imminence of . this dire possibility there has been a sad shaking of heads. Active and persistent dinner-givers In the diplomatic, cabinet and sena torial "sets," as well as among the merely rich people, who in Increasing numbers are making Washington a place of resort in the, winter months, have found Mr. Roosevelt's "nice young men" almost, a necessity In making their social plans for enter tainment and amusement : In any event, it is realized that the tennis cabinet, as sch, Ib doomed. It will dissolve into its constituent ele ments and fade away from the scene of Washington activities, social, poli tical, and sporting, after March 4 next , - Whether Mr. Taft or Mr. Bryan is elected, the tennis court In the rear of the executive offices seems certain to become once more a flower bed for the display of geometrical flyures of early blooming crocuses or a play ground for children. . y; v nt CTs ; fayUpmnonently cmoKWcvtreMr m6al efforts itMK usite ctheoM Yntfy KenejicVal laxative terned Syrup efiiH U Ut Semi fttwh. nb(eft pnfbfor alr MbtTn daily lWasliK U iw ture'aytv bt radatil di6cJw'A Mongrt&tJi $tKcUstf ItnesVwhea'vcoiiiretl, areto assist f and net U auvplant tkc rtaW MluncUoiis.wnkn Ma BsrtAlaffV VtWvWAs wwvkkV wt lo M its bne(ctA( effects, olciyS bttth genuine -CAiiFomnA, SOLD BMLUADINCtroClSTS Cuetueonl, rector pnet 8ft trfiottl Can Cancer Be Cured?
